Posted: Wed Aug 18, 2004 12:28 amLooks like the Mavs are going to get Eric Dampier and Evan Eschemyer... for Najera, somce cash and some 1st rnd. draft picks (and alittle more).
Good on Cuban and Nelly. After missing out on Shaq (but still having him end up in the East) they really needed to concentrate on getting a big man. Dampier is big and talented. He played for Mississippi State back when I went to college there, being the main cog in getting us to the final four for the first time.
It sucks to not have Shaq, but Dampier is, honestly, the next best thing. He is a bit younger, lots of expirience, and can shoot free throws better (as well as can hit an 8 ft jumper- Shaq's not so good with that).
The additiona of Eschemeyer is bonus... two good players for Najera (who I like, but is plagued with injuries) and the draft picks is a good move.
Kudos to the Mavs for salvaging the off season.
