Ok so working on a game and suddenly it hits me....I'm writing over 100 spells for a Tongue in cheek RPG.....WHATS wrong with me....and to top it off I realy can't see me being able to shrink it with out short changing the game!

Tell me you guys have done this too (set your self up for a longer project then you intended!)

Almost All of my projects are like that.

XenoExodous has a universe so expansive that the place for players has almost been lost. My notes cover everything from fashion (Flight suits tumble dried with razorblades) to nuclear warfare, and the catholic church (now based in Brazil due to Rome being hit with a tac-nuke) fighting with some militant secular humanists over rights to colonize planets, while the whole human race is about to be wiped out by an alien planet-former...

Gangland, the simple "Grand Theft Auto" RPG has one addendum already, and a second in the works that introduces martial arts, a new damage system for handling APCs and Tanks, at least three settings (Martial Artists in a Siberian Prison, alternate WW II continuing into the early 50s, 1950's zeerust with vampires). This isn't counting the "Way of the Ninja" spin-off game.

Dead and Back - a nice simple excuse to shoot zombies and show off a fun little combat system I cooked up, now involving alien invasion, transhumanism, a militant American theocracy, and a discussion of alternate energy sources.

Dead EISS - my attempt to create "Four-stat mecha" for simple robot combat has quite a few more stats than that, different rules for using normal vehicles, and a series of false-historical documents to explain how its all based on boot-leg tapes of an old 80s anime.

OF G-men and Supermen" might see a second document soon that details the HEROS HQ, the secret prison for Comics and MJ-12 along with a revised combat system.

has anyone here heard of "artist trading cards". its a great idea started in like 1997. I was wondering what would be the Free-RPG version?

The most atrocious recent example was when I attempted to write two or three paragraphs on game world mapping. Over a dozen pages later and I had only covered mapping out cities and trade routes. How to create the underlying terrain or political borders was never even mentioned, just the largest cities, major roads, and shipping lanes, and the latter two were treated as being the same thing.

Yeah. I get carried away sometimes. Over a hundred spells for something meant as rather silly or at least humorous entertainment isn't really that bad. A hundred-thousand spells, now that's being silly.

I can think of a couple of possible analogues for artist trading cards for the free RPG community. One is the games themselves, or at least the smaller examples. The other idea--riffing on the idea of ATC's being traded rather than sold--is to make something for another person's game, even if it's just a character sheet or NPC idea.

I tried to get something started with other publishers (mostly of the pdf sales variety) to do mutual reviews; not quite the same as trading tiny paintings, but in the same genre. A nice comment for a sales page or a back-cover blurb would have sufficed, but this idea didn't go anywhere. The idea was to do this collectively, so that there wouldn't be a perception of a tit-for-tat scenario. To use the posters on this thread as an example, I would review Chainsaw Aardvark's game, who would review Kumakami's game, who would review mine. There were twin problems in people thinking giving away a pdf to a peer reviewer would somehow lower the value (or that people would get involved just to crib free stuff) and a general reluctance to take the time to review someone else's work.

Kuma, do you mean http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artist_trading_cards

I'd not heard of those before. We collected football (soccer) stickers and "garbage pail kids" stickers when I was a lad but not artist ones.

A Free RPG version perhaps would be images of Free RPG Games scattered around the web on forums, blogs or websites. They could be RPG covers or pcitures of authors or famous sites, like John Kim's one. Collecting them would be a case of downloading as many of the graphics as possible. :)

Set up a 1KM1KT project thread and add this text to it!

Something like Alexa, GooglePreview, ThumbShots or Webshot? If it's something as easily obtained as copying an Alexa thumbnail, it would seem to lose some value as an item of trade.

the other thing I think would work is to take a few Universals and then trade 1pg "add on's"
