Can other people reach my site?

I am unable to reach either 150m or my hosted website, www.mythogames.150m.com. However, if I check with Google analytics, there's still traffic hitting the site--but not, suspiciously enough, from Australia (where I am).

I have a feeling that the entire 150m.com domain may have been blocked by the Australian government as per the great Firewall of Australia. http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2009/03/ ... 61100.html.

Anyway, I'm wondering if people in other countries can still see the site.

I'm in the process of moving everything to Just Host anyway. 150m ate my fiction site without trace and have never managed to get it up and running again (although there were reasonably nice about it--in a sense, their customer service was fine--I just don't want to be paying money to a host that randomly deletes sites for no apparent reason).

Assuming it's a firewall issue, it's annoying, as I was planning to simply download all the pdfs and repost them rather than dig through my files and back-ups for the files.

At this point the new Just Host site (www.mythopoeticgames.com) seems to be working fine except for the pdf links which are still linking to the old mythogames site. Again, assuming it's an Australian problem, those links should work fine outside of the Firewall of Oz.

I see it fine amigo.

If you want me to get the PDFs, I can DL them and zip them up for you.

Thanks for that--so, the Great Firewall of Oz it is then... I'm a little bit amazed that an entire webhosting service has been blacklisted.

I'll do a quick hunt through my backup files. I'm pretty sure that I have everything to hand. It's just a slight nuisance. Thanks for the offer though. If it turns out that I can't locate any of the pdfs on my backup drive I'll let you know.

Looks like I've jumped to conclusions. It's the university blocking the host, not the great firewall.

I presume this is because the 150m free sites tend to be pretty badly afflicted by constant pop-up attack. In any case, I'm moving to a different host so it won't be an issue for long.

I'd be interested in hearing advice on hosts. I use a few different ones. None are perfect so far. Perhaps I should stop being so Scottish and put my hand in my pocket and pay for one ;-)

My favourite host is http://www.34sp.com They have their moments but no real complaints so far.

I'll check out 34sp. They look good.

At the moment I have domain names stored with go daddy and am in the process of setting up hosting with Just Host. I find the go daddy user interface confusing and non-intuitive--this resulted in me accidentally picking an option that was much more expensive than the one I wanted. They fixed this quickly and refunded me when I explain what had happened, but still, a cleaner web design would be helpful.

You don't have to keep your hosting and domain names separate, and although some people recommend that you do, I'm now thinking I should just port my domain names across to Just Host and keep it all in one place.

I'm quite pleased with Just Host so far. I do all of my page creation using Nvu (http://net2.com/nvu/) and simply upload the files, so I can't comment of the Just Host site building tools, but their basic service and user interface is clean and easy to navigate.

My old service, 150m.com have progressively alienated me through a mixture of not keeping competitive in terms of price and bandwidth and, more recently, accidentally deleting one of my sites.

Chris, another possibility is to use blogger. Although it is based around a 'news' system, you can also create static pages now. Worth a play - and it's free. :-)
