Hello I'm the New Guy

Hey, I'm new to this community and it was actually referred to me by Rob Lang. I contacted him through his Icar page about some of the elements in his Icar RPG and he suggested that I check this place out.

Anyways, I'm a current college student who is also working on crafting his own RPG. I'm a big fan of the steampunk genre, but every steampunk RPG I've come across on the internet has been very disappointing. So, I'm making my own. It'll include fantasy elements eventually, but right now I'm focusing purely on the system and the fictional city that will act as the core setting when I'm done. I've got most of the system figured out in my head, I just need to start assigning numbers and formulas which will include a lot of guess and check. When I get a set of rules written up in an organized fashion I'll post them up here for other people to try and offer feedback.

If you have any questions about what I have so far, then feel free to ask. Either way, I have to go get ready for work.

Hello and welcome to 1km1kt.net. Steampunk, you say? I'm looking forwards to seeing what you design.

Welcome, glad you decided to join us. :) Of course, I mean that in a non-threatening-cult sort of way.

There isn't a lot of steampunk online but there are bits and pieces. Interesting to hear you're sorting out the system first. I would write the setting first and then craft the system so that playing game feels right for the setting. Doing it the other way round often makes the system feel disconnected.

Good point sir, or ma'am, but that's not really a concern. I've got the setting all sorted out in my head, I just haven't started fine tuning it yet, and I'm trying to ground the system in a sense of realism, while still maintaining the more fantastic elements of steampunk spliced with mild fantasy. I'm actually going to be using a skill system and combat system very similar to Rob Lang's Icar, which I've already asked for his permission, but am adjusting it to be a little more in depth and to fit in with the genre I'm focusing on and also the slightly more rule driven style that I'm accustomed to, from say, too much D&D.

[edit]
And then I realized that it was Rob that I was responding to. I also reread my first post and realized why you may have been mislead a little. I had said I was working on the system and also the city that will be the central point for the setting. I should not have used the word "purely" in that sentence. Apologies.
