Ennies nominations are out - I'm backing Old School Hack

Once again the are out and this time (once again) there is only one truly free RPG in the mix - (my review is ).

I'm going to drum up support for OSH to be the winner of the free RPG category because I don't think it should go to a cut-down marketing ploy of a full price game. I keep vowing to send in loads of free RPGs that I think are worthy but never get round to it. At least this year, we can push for getting a free game as a winner.

I'll second that idea. Maybe vote for Eclipse Phase too, due to their unique release means for the main book. (You're free to copy and share that tome, though the other stuff is more conventionally licensed.)

May I ask what other free games are on you list?

While I'm thinking of alternatives - why isn't 1km1kt.net in the running for "Best Website"? You would think 500 something freely available games would be noteworthy. Or that we're the default archive for contest submissions not only of our own design, but Ronnies and Game-chef? Our helpful forums? Something is very wrong with the list.

I am not compiling a best of free (the Monkies) just yet. Trying to work out how that might be good.

As for the Ennies, you have to submit to be considered and I don't think we've submitted.

Hey guys, Kirin here.

First, thanks so much for the support! It's an honor to "represent" the free RPG movement because the awesomely creative labor-of-love enthusiasm that you guys bring to the table is something I wholeheartedly approve of, I couldn't imagine a cooler bunch of folks from the RPG sphere havin' my back.

For what it's worth I'm a big fan of the ENnies (one of the reasons I submitted) because I know the judges really do work their butts off reviewing and comparing the year's submissions, and they put up with a lot of bullshit for doing so, and every year they've always reliably uncovered some brilliant diamonds in the rough that I otherwise would never have known about (something which I hope happens with OSH).

Because of that I really encourage any of you to submit your stuff in the future. It cost me $5 bucks and took up about fifteen minutes to fill out an online form. From everything I've heard the judges have always been interested and enthusiastic about the cool new stuff and out-from-left-field RPGs that come from folks like the free RPG movement. The wider the diversity, the better, for all of us. What can it hurt not to?

Regardless of how you feel about the ENnies, any voting I can get you guys to do is greatly appreciated! I had a lot of fun making Old School Hack (and I'm firmly committed to it & anything else done for it always being free & available & hackable by anyone - "Make Games Your Own" has been my credo from the get-go) and I've had a lot of fun playing it and seeing it get played and that's only ever been the real goal and getting some recognition just means more of that.

Thanks again to Rob for his great review and all the great enthusiasm! Free RPGs rock!
