Films that set the mood

I'm curious as to whether there are films that you, as a roleplayer, enjoy...in terms of the mood.

For instance, there's something amazing about the mood in 2001: A Space Odyssey (okay; there's a lot that's amazing about that film). I think that if an RPG could capture that feel, it would be incredibly enjoyable.

From a fantasy POV, I really enjoy the lighthearted interspersed with serious adventure. For that reason, the Conan films, especially Conan the Destroyer, is a fave of mine.

Although I really enjoy the mood of Johnny Mnemonic, I think the film overall is pretty unimpressive.

If you're going to play Orpheus, then "Flatliners" and (the original) "Thirteen Ghosts" are required. Good for most things involving ghosts and mediums really.

The Postman is pretty good for the time after the war. I liked the film at least, and though it leaves out a great deal of the novel, I also feel the novel went on for a bit too long.

Unknown Armies, Over the Edge, or Paranoia would all be well served by watching "Naked Lunch". (Brought to us by the same guy who did Scanners and The Fly)
