CONcurrent - online RPG festival

I can't go to GenCon. Whenever I start thinking about syphoning off the cash for the ticket, the Mrs will rightly hold up a brochure of sofa beds for the spare bedroom. I've always wanted to go. Wear a philathropists logo T-Shirt (OT: would anyone else buy one?), run free RPG games and stop people in the middle of the sales hall and tell them about free RPGs. In your face philanthropy. It's not going to happen while there are still good family reasons to save cash. Which there are, so bum.

However, there is , which is a convention run at the same time. Best of all, it's free. As in what we do. Free. Looks rather well run, marketed and there are events happening too.

I'm thinking...

Thinking about...

Well, we could throw our collective weight at it. Run a load of free RPGs over Google+. I'll even buy a webcam for it. We could have an free RPG masterclass and do that podcast-esque back and forth I was talking about ages ago. We could bring free RPGs to CONcurrent. Perhaps have a free RPG award ceremony.

What do you think? We've got a month so we can't hang about!

Doesn't sound bad. I could do the podcast thingy, although I'm a bit camera shy, I suppose I could get over it. What would you want to do? Answer a series of Algebra questions or some such? I don't run google+ though.

My parents live in Indy, I went to Gen Con last year and trudged around. As a thought for next year I could walk around with a philanthropy t-shirt on and bemoan and bewail the woeful treatment of monkeys slaving away for their enjoyment and only they can relive the sufferings. Kinda like save the pandas, save the monkeys?

Although now that I think of it, there is a ban on handing out flyers I wonder if this kind of behavior would get me kicked out. Oh well it'd be fun anyway.

I've got some medical reasons for why I don't attend conventions in general - but one via the internet, that I could probably handle. With no prior experience at handling a game via Voice Over Internet Protocol, I probably shouldn't attempt that. A question and answer session about game design or my games in specific could work, however.

Compile a list of questions, concerns, suggestions in Google docs and I can probably manage something, I just need a bit of practice.

I'm glad I'm not barking up the wrong tree here!

Onix, will you be going to Gen Con this year? If not, it'll be great to have you at CONcurrent, if so it would be superb to have "our man" in Indy! Is there is specific reason you're not on G+ - quite a lot of the RPG industry is on there? Just wonderin'.

CA, I have no idea what form this would take, just knocking about some ideas. I think we should run some games. I've never done a game over VOIP/G+ either. Perhaps I should put some practise in first too. As for the podcast, you could wear your gas mask. Or an Aardvark mask?

I imagine we'd hit questions like: favourite free RPG, most overused free RPG meme, favourite 24 hour RPG, cool free RPG mechanic, what would you like to see in a free RPG? etc. I could go on all day.

Sounds liked a great idea Rob. I'll give it a bit of thought. Don't know how SFBK would work on Skype/G+ etc., but as it's a freeform I think it's possible. Either that or Fiasco or some other kooky GMless stuff.

Slightly OT but the philanthropy T-shirts you mention, do they actually exist? And, if so, how can I buy one? I like the idea of sporting it at the various physical cons I attend in order to spread the word

They don't exist. TBH, it's never really occurred to me. I'd like one, naturally. This needs a new thread.
