1KM1KT Free RPG Community

I am new to 1km1kt and I am wondering if this community is active at all? There seems to be nearly no activity.

Unfortunately, it's not too active nowadays... Hopefully the upcoming 24h RPG contest will stir things up a little! (I hope)

As the movie reminds us "Start topics and he will come". I check the forums everyday, so if you have any questions or wish to present an idea you're working on, I'll try to help. This isn't a massive community like rpg.net or 1d4chan. We are knowledgeable, though.

No, we're not the most active community, but when the mood strikes we can get pretty spirited. A lot of us met up through here, but are quite active on our own blogs/forums/websites, or busy actively designing our own games.

I try to check every other day or so. Sometimes I slip a few days.

Last year we were more active. We seemed to hit some kind of doldrums that we haven't broken out of. It is the case that we go through fluctuations of activity but activity breeds activity. If there's something to respond to, we tend to hang around and come up with something to say for ourselves.

The other thing is that a lot of us have known each other already for several years, we occasionally shoot out an idea or question but we know the guys that are here and will be here.

Like Onix, I try to check in here every other day, although in practice my visits are a bit less frequent than that. There are some sites that have many more registered users than this one, and as a consequence generate a lot more traffic, the main ones in this category being RPGNet (AKA TBP, or The Big Purple), TheRPGSite, RPGGeek and Story-Games. Many of the regulars here also post in some of those sites, along with smaller ones like TheRPGHaven and Pen & Paper Games. I myself am on about eight sites, and try to visit them all reasonably frequently.

A lot of folks appreciate the calm atmos on sites like this one, where there are no flame wars, where threads don't go on for pages and pages, and where everybody knows your name. (Ok, that last one was lifted from the Cheers theme song, but you get the idea). This site is of course aimed specifically, but not exclusively, at folks who are interested in writing and reading about free games.

Then there are the lurkers, who for whatever reason don't actually join in the discussions, and at this time of year a great many folks are on vacation. So all in all, even though it may not look like it at times there is plenty of activity, so don't think your posts and threads are going unnoticed .

Plus there have been a few personal changes that have change things this year. Rob lang, the UK nut job that runs the forums, has changed jobs and start doodling (aka web comic) in his spare time. I my self (the green text and odd title means I'm one of the Mods) finally got a job after years of such but due to commute length and the fact its a graveyard shift barely have the brains to post at times.

The site tends to get more active once the yearly competition is in full swing so there is always that...

I still check in every day and skim the active topics, although I don't post as much. I think of 1km1kt as the great computer in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: no matter what you ask, you'll get the correct answer - although it may take a while, and you won't always understand the meaning of it.
