the caveman progenitor to gaming was the war game, D&D was based on one. Even warhammer and warhammer 40K translated well to an RPG.

I want to try a 24 x2 challenge. 24 hours to make a war game....then 24 hour to translate it into an RPG. At the least I'm thinking of try to make a quick start for a wargame then turn it into an quickstart for an rpg.....thoughts?

I like how this idea reflects on the history of RPGs! It's meta-design

Do you want others to participate, or is it the kind of contest you set up for yourself?

I could grok that - as a hardcore wargamer I could see some merit in this

What about turning an RPG into a wargame? Could be more interesting.

For me one of the most interesting wargames is crossfire - no rulers no measuring and no set turn system - represents warfare fantastically, its only issue is it falls down with vehicles.

Evil Scientist: the more the better, I really want to have the time and cash to make this a Comp...think it would be fun

Wannabe writer:Thank you, I like playing so many different types of games that the crossing of them seems normal to me ;)

Anastylos: go for it! to be truthful though, that is normally less fun to do. RPG's tend to be about fuller details then Wargames. It tends to be better to scale up in details then to scale down. I would love to see you results though..

This is an awesome idea.

We haven't had a good contest or challenge around here in ages (or may we have, and I've been too busy elsewhere to notice). I'd certainly be up for the challenge, it links to a few of the game ideas I've had lately.

[Edit: If this turns into a contest, I'll throw something towards the winners]
