They were making fun of me because I said my name was "Dan", and apparently the Amish don't use nicknames like that.
"My father's name is Daniel, but I never heard of anyone named Dan before."

I was like, WTF, after getting made fun of by the Amish, I have to reevaluate the coolness of my hobby!
For the life of me, I could not explain what I was doing in the woods. They hadn't heard of D&D, and they hadn't heard of Renaissance fairs, so they really had no point of reference for LARPs.
When Stephen and Levi dropped me off, the lynch mob was sitting on the front porch of their cabin, eating pie and patting themselves on the back. You should have seen the looks on their faces when I got dropped off by a real horse and buggy.
So I will never make fun of Amish people again. They saved my ass, for real!
