Just want to take a second to promote the free fantasy art available over at

They have a bunch of really nice black and white line art and much of it has a fantasy theme. They also provide permission for you to use it for free in your projects (you just need to run their add at some point in your publication - check out for an example of the art and how it can be used for free via the mega art license.

I was hoping by sharing this information I might inspire some folks out there to use the art to submit some new fantasy rpgs or fictional works.

That reminds me... any one remember those old "choose-your-own-adventure" novels. They were kinda like solo-rpgs but were really just stories with winding paths and multiple endings... I was just thinking that this art might be perfect for a fun project like that if anyone wanted to try to tackle it!

It is weird... in this world of computers and copy machines that restriction is really no restriction at all. I also think the Mega Minis logo is atrocious. Really ugly... which is a shame given the wonderful quality of the art.

Hmmmm... I've encountered some difficulty from using a lot of the Megaminis clipart to create an RPG with. I used the Zombie, Skeleton, Street Thugs and SWAT clipart to create a game called "Regs, Dregs, & Zombies". The problem I've encountered is that the pdf has a massive amount of data in it (8.5mb) yet the game isn't that huge (55 pages, mainly artwork). The rules are very simple and don't take up much space, but the artwork definitely does. I've encountered trouble sending the pdf into 1km1kt, as it takes a while to upload, so it has either defaulted midway through or been sent back to me due to mailing error even though I definitely used the right email address to send it to (my guess is that the pdf file attached was in error somehow).
Basically, I used 45 different Megaminis (that's including the ad clipart and the license clipart they provide as part of their deal). The game really isn't much without the clipart involved. Now I have a game that looks great and is something I am very happy with, but I can't seem to send in to share with others. Luckily, I'm not in any hurry to try to send it in again to 1km1kt as I've already sent a few other submissions in recently due to the video game RPG and character sheet RPG challenges. "Regs, Dregs, & Zombies" would technically be another contribution from me to the solo rpg challenge, though it does have within it rules for multiplayer games.

since the art is basically black and white have you tried converting it to GIF format. Adobe handles GIF images really well and I think that will increase your compression ratio quite a bit... Just a suggestion.

I'll try the gif thing, Jeff. Thanks. I tried a couple different ways to send in the game the other day, but no luck. So far, the best thing I've figured out is to split the game up into more than one pdf, then send it in that way. If the gif idea works, though, I'll hopefully be able to send it as one pdf file, which I'd prefer to do.

I had tried your GIF idea (the clipart came in TIF files), but it didn't work. I ended up dividing the game into smaller pdf files and submitted it that way to 1km1kt. With a little help from Keeton, it all worked out. Here's the link to the game:



Glad you liked the Quiz & Dragons game. It seemed an interesting premise to offer an RPG world wherein interaction was based on trivia questions. Plus, the rules of the Quiz & Dragons arcade game were something I knew would be easy to adapt into an RPG in 24 hours. Thanks for the compliment, Jeff.
