Slasher horror game

I'm courting feedback (and playtesting) on my (I hope) nearly finished game. The game can be found over at rpglab, the sister site to this one. However, in an attempt to up the feedback, I'm trying to draw on the 1km crowd as well.

So, if you just greatly oppose join rpglab (although it's as easy as joining this site). However, if you are even slightly interested in making RPGs, you really should join.

You can download the game from . And post your feedback at this site. As a warning, the game is based on slasher horror movies, so if you are easily offended (or even offend-able), skip it.

Blurb:

Evil Prevails is a game of fear, brutality and murder. It is based on slasher horror movies, the movies where the killer seems to have all the advantages and takes time to not only kill but horrify their victims. The only difference is in this game there is no unlikely anti-hero to save the day. Good may one day triumph over evil, but today isn’t that day.

You know, I might have actually tried the game if it wasn't for the pretentious blurb. It really makes the game seem like just another uninspired RPG that considers itself dark and shocking, but really isn't.

There are three kinds of RPGs out there:

1) Fun RPGs- These games don't try to seem shocking or anything, they just provide a game to their reader.

2) Pretentious Garbage RPGs- These try to seem shocking or mysterious to their readers, and they fail horribly. Many times the reader will gain insight into the psychology of the game's creator, and will be able to clearly examine the childish motives driving them to add such pretentiousness to their games.

3) Dark RPGs- Every millenium or so, an RPG that has a dark, non-humorous setting will come into existence but, unlike a Pretentious Garbage RPG, it will come off as revolutionary and dramatic. It will stand as a god among men. I can't actually think of any examples of this, but Dark Sun is pretty close.

Actually, I had a sudden change of heart and decided to try to read through the game.

But I changed my mind when I saw that large pieces of text were illegible.

Steady on tiger.
This might be two years too late, but I think the criticism of your game is a little overboard. I just had a quick skimread, and Max W's comments seem extremely hasty. I looked for pretension, and didn't find it. Writing needs arrogance anyway. It takes a lot of work to think up an entire system, and pretentiousness in doing so is necessary for not giving up. So if there was any, I'd probably applaud it.

But there isn't.
I see a tiny preamble, that looks pretty damn valid. Humble even.

Try reading the first 10 pages of a White Wolf book sometime. It's a lot of wank, ain't it?
But I'll be damned if it ain't fun to play.

I concur! I think some proof-reading would probably be in order, and maybe an easier to read font for the headings. Aside from that, I see no sign of the game taking itself even slightly seriously. I mean, slasher movies are unutterable trash - that's the point!
You have to put in a disclaimer for the same reason Vampire and Werewolf need to, to give you an out in the case of disturbed people using your game as an excuse for badness, but that doesn't mean you're taking the premise seriously - the game's grim 'cos slasher movies are grim, but they're grim and hokey. Usually on purpose.
