There was a post on rpg.net about a . That would be a fun addition to this idea. He said that the resolution was a bit poor but if you're doing your home town, you probably don't need names on things. In this process you'll probably be renaming things on the fly anyway.

If you did want a high res map, the guy who does Enderra printed some really nice at a photo store. It's smaller than the photo size but still quite large.

Just thought a really large format map would be a lot of fun for this kind of setting. And if you went with the vinyl, you could use it as a tablecloth to prevent any damage to your kitchen table from spilled drinks etc. 8-)

I bought a local map from a stationary store (WHSmith for the Brits). It was £3.50 (about $5). I debated whether to get colour or black and white. I got a colour one but I think that might be my undoing as the B&W paper was less waxy and easier to draw on.

These rules have a very "Fallout" feel to them.

Great! I love little generator systems with which I can entertain myself for hours on end. It's the rpg geek's TV-equivalent.

How about a component-based system for added randomness? You roll on two tables, one has adjectives, the other nouns (names of places, objects, etc.). So for example you can have

Table 1
1. Safe
2. Dangerous
3. Infected
4. Ransacked
5. Intact

Table 2
1. Hospital
2. School
3. Factory
4. Avarage house
5. Petrol station

Or even three tables, with more "conceptual" names:
Descriptor -- Location -- Actors
"Ransacked School with Zombies", "Infected Construction Yard with Lonely Survivor", etc.

How about adding something like resources you could find in there.

Table 3
1. Spoiled
2. Broken
3. Used
4. Spread out
5. Like new
6. Unwrapped

Table 4
1. Food
2. Water
3. Medical Supplies
4. Weapons
5. Ammo
6. Luxury Goods
