Game Suggestions

Hey, I have an issue.
I hang out in a chat room, and we already have a Pathfinder game going via Maptool. I want to run another game, so that the DM of the PF game and those that were late to the PF party can play. I don't want to do fantasy (at least not traditional fantasy), as I don't want to just be repeating the themes of the PF game, and the DM has vetoed superhero games.
A criminal game might be right up their alley, but Criminal Element is out because we can't find a program or website for the card usage.
Any suggestions? As long as all the info we need is freely available and it isn't fantasy or superheroes, I'll give it a look.

They might also be interested in some espionage. They're all pretty new to RPGs, and also pretty easygoing, so I'm pretty much in the driver's seat here.

Do you have Spycraft? If you don't I'd say it's a good d20 espionage game, though its merits are more that it's familiar than that it's groundbreaking.

I'm going to finish Orchestra one of these days, and while the dice-rolling is somewhat complex it would fit the espionage genre perfectly.

About Spring of 2007 there was a a website called had a 24 hour contest to produce role playing games on the theme of espionage, and the finished items are in the 1km1kt.net archives. I seem to recall that the winner was "" - a rather humorous entry. Of course I had one of my own (the sorta steampunk ) and the other entrants included , , and . Probably a few others, though my search didn't find them. It did run across which might also fit your criteria.

I actually just picked Saturn since it seemed like a neat location and floating cities more romantic than hollowed-out Trojan Asteroids. The real-life Irgun/Palmach are a bit politically charged to handle in a game (especially in just 24 hours), so violent pacifists in WW I seemed a bit easier to handle. Although I am aware of the influence of Ron Howard/John Carter, I haven't really read much of his work (I prefer his later followers like Isaac Asimov or Ben Bova.) It probably could be made a bit more pulp inspired, but I like the low-key resistance movement vibe.

If you've got suggestions for how to improve RoJ, I'd be glad to hear them. I really should do new editions of my various games aside from D&B.

Here's the obligatory point where I offer my own free game into the mix.

Try FUBAR.

The basic premise is a revenge tale with elements of criminal danger and espionage...but the eisting expansions sets cover the wild west and road trip stories. This week I'll be providing a supplement where the players are dead but have been reanimated by dark powers to complete their unfinished business in the world...hopefully in a few more weeks I'll be uploading my fantasy supplement for the game.
