Identity Cards

I was looking through my old files and found a description of a device that I called an Identity Card that I wrote about back before good ol' 1995. The funny thing is, I pretty much described an iPhone 5s except with screens on both sides and a bit slimmer. The problem I have is, this was supposed to be for a setting far into the future not ten years.

It's really strange that some technologies overtake your ideas and others linger in the far future (still no space travel). Its weird that it's the tech that nobody is looking for that surges ahead, everyone thought the ID card idea was far fetched and didn't know what to do with them. While the tech that everyone is waiting for, lasers guns and hyperdrive, still don't happen.

Have you ever found this happening to you?

Back in 1999, a friend and I "designed" a western-themed Commandos rip-off computer game - did a few sketches, had a blast making up various levels and missions, drawing maps. One day, we left the folder in our desk at the classroom. The next day it disappeared.

Two years later Desperados came out!

Sorry for the off topic.

The thing is... I know this sounds awfully primitive, but as long as there's more money in selling people iPhone 1-2-3-4-5-6-7 etc, nobody's really investing in hyperdrives. Technology (not science!) is consumer-oriented technology. Mass production. And I don't think anybody expect for us nerds is eagerly waiting for hyperdrives. Makes me kinda sad.
