I ♥︎ Rockets

I've been working on an educational RPG. It's designed to show what it's like to have High Functioning Autism and try and navigate society. So far the experience has been on target while still being fun. It's a short one shot game about a crew of space travelers crash landing on an alien planet and trying to get back home.

As we've play tested I noticed that people that are on the spectrum are amazed at how well neurotypicals can come up with the social violations. I've come to the conclusion that it's could be educational for people who are on the HFA spectrum as it gets people thinking about their own communication skills and what can go wrong. I'm hoping to get a new version worked up that makes those lessons more explicit.

Here's the latest version for your hard drives. (The forum here doesn't like the ♥︎ symbol in the link, so you'll have to just copy and paste it in the browser.)

This is very cool. I wonder if there are any other games that help neurotypical people understand autism (or anything else for that matter).

I'm not aware of any. Usually for books the education route is aimed at trying to train the person with autism. In the end, I'm writing from my perspective so it ends up being the other way around. I've had some good results with my kids book and families with HFA kids, why not raise the age up a bit?
