Entry - Appliance Adventures

Howdy.

I started about 2 hours ago (8:25 local time) on my game. I chose the topic "Mr. Toaster needs a soul." The game I'm trying to write is a kid-friendly, teamwork-focused, exploration game where the players characters are self-aware household appliances - sorta like a less anthropomorphic The Brave Little Toaster.

Wanted to actually start it and see if the game idea had legs before I went public with the idea. :)

Congratulations for finishing, Dave. I am glad the competition could be used as a vehicle for getting the idea out of your head. That's exactly what it's for! I can't give anymore feedback just yet as the judging is about to begin and it wouldn't be fair.

I was not happy with the old name, so I switched it. Emergent Property would work for a darker game, but I feel Appliance Adventures fits the tone of the game much better.

I'm nearing completion - I need to finish the GMing section and give it a TOC before turning it in. I'm not completely satisfied with the results - it needs graphics, a fleshed out sample adventure, and (I suspect) some tweaks to the central mechanic, but it seems a decent start.

Would you say it's playable? As far as I'm concerned a finished game is one that can be played!

Don't answer this yet, just get it in and then come back. :)

And done.

I would say that the game is arguably playable. I could probably run it, most everyone else will probably have to argue over the rules. :)

I am happy with what I accomplished in the short time span, but the document is far from complete. The sample adventure needs fleshed out, the Narrator's section needs work, there are no graphics, and the fit & finish is terrible.

Thanks for organizing this,

Dave

I've submitted the game to the site, but I've also posted the game to my (mostly-defunct) blog. You can get it here: .

Thanks!

Congratulations! It's a remarkable achievement. Finished is relative and we judge the game as a whole, graphics being just a part.
