This discussion is for RR&R by the CD.

Initial Impressions: ASCII. For a visual learner like me, it's like rubbing a cheese grater across the eyes, but still. Overall, this is a small game set in a simple Western fantasy setting.

Good Points:

Simple. Directed. No loose or in-the-way rules.

Combat: Simple. Very Unknown Armies-y.

Chargen: Mmmmm, Burning Wheel. Simple but effective use of lifepath and jobs to get skills. A little Fudge FATE flava here, too.

Points to Work on:

Needs examples- At least a sample character or two.

Magic is very unclear- Unsure how to "give away a Boon", or how they're gotten in the first place. Under which conditions they are given, how that ties closer into the game setting, etc. I wish the magic/boon section was 2-3 times longer with solid setting examples.

Need examples of which skills go with which apprenticeship.

Overall: Simple fantasy game that is a blend of many other concepts that we're familiar with. This is great for a "throw down" game or a game while carpooling, as you hardly need to bring anything to make it work, and the entire document can be saved in an iPod for easy reference on the road.
