Hello all! I just found out about 24 hour rpg and thought I'd give it a go, I'm nearing the half way point on the clock and I just now realized I have no real theme for the rpg but it is instead a generic system meant for any genre. The only reason I bring this up is I've noticed that most of the entries here are usually tied to a specific genre and I was wondering if I should have one myself? kinda late in the game to be thinking about that now but all the same I thought I'd ask.

Welcome to 1km1kt.net! Jumping in with both feet by doing a 24 hour game is a very impressive first project.

You are not required to have a theme.

However including a theme, storyline, or setting of some sort would be highly recommended for for any RPG project. From the author's perspective - its a way to organize thoughts and choose a system that fits the idea. On the other side, potential players tend to become interested due to the game's story than because it happens to feature their favorite type of dice.

Development usually works in one of two directions. First of all, You can start with a story and then work from there to find mechanics to support it. Or begin with a concept of how you want the game to play (fast combat, focus on horror, mortal players) and then have story that brings those elements to the forefront. These approaches often begin to intersect and trade off later in the development as new ideas are implied.

Speaking of things not required - you're also not required to actually finish a 24 hour RPG either. Its more of a personal challenge of motivation, concentration, and proof you can do all the work it takes. We certainly hope it gets finished, however, and that you continue to post on these forums and share your games with us.

Good luck with all your gaming.

I know it doesn't have to be done in 24 hours I just thought it would be fun to try. Looks like it's going to be generic though due to time restraints, I'll be posting it here shortly

I definitely enjoy trying most rpgs out at least once but my primary gaming would consist of D&D 3.5, Pathfinder, and my current obsession is a little game called Microlite20, it's essentially a simplified pick up and play system completely compatible with monsters and adventures from OGL material. And thanks! Looking forward to seeing all the fun systems on here
