In this thread shall be announced a series of Chairman's Challenges.

They represent the whims and fancy of yours truly.

Meeting the requirements for a Chairman's Challenge earns you no bonus points, no favor with the judges, no extra credit. Merely bragging rights from flexing your game design fu.

Chairman's Challenge #1

To pass this first Challenge the chef must:

Select for their theme an authentic historical period that has never been featured before in a published role playing game (and yes, that does include GURPS sourcebooks).

Judging will be based on the Chairman's ability (or inability) to find evidence of such a game (including reviews, actual game text, or retail availability) on-line.

The historical period must be authentic, but may be a romanticised version of reality (in the way in which Robin Hood or the American West have been).

Are there any among you who will rise to the challenge?

It may well be that Silurian Emergence (check out page 2 in the Vomitorium) qualifies, although the period is technically (way) pre-historical, and the "romantization" is extreme.

But if the dish satisfies, that is a reward in itself.

Faewine is very romanticized. EVERYBODY KNOWS faeries bite!

Ahhh, wonderful. Some early nibbles.

Chef Doug it seems you have found a loop hole in the Chairman's Challenge. It had been my intention to define "historical" as being a period which no one alive today lived during as an adult. But...it would seem I forgot to include that notation and so your entry could win on a technicality...if you actually manage to finish the dish.

Chef Gordon has certainly looked outside of the box for his entry, but I'm afraid its not authentic enough to meet the requirements of this challenge ;-)

The Chairman is greatly looking forward to sipping an aperitif of faerie wine but I'm afraid my staff of fawning attendents informs me that, alas, Victorian Faeries is a period that has been previously published.

I believe "Charles the Bald is superf***ed" qualifies. Nobody's written a game on 9th century Breton rebels before, AFAIK.
