The Sideline Interviewer

(A place to discuss progress, problems, and anything you want to rant about)

Interviewer: So how do you think your doing so far?
- Well I think I'm off to a good start. Some of the ingredients are proving a bit of a challenge, and my pot is simmering just a little to high for my taste.

Interviewer: How about the competition?
- It's brutal. I'm damn impressed by the other dishes I see being cooked up. Man, I just don't know. Some have great detail and other great potential for play. I just don't know. *shrugs*

((- runs back to the design kitchen -))

Interviewer: You had quite a head of steam built up!
Yeah! *sheepish* Wish I'd known Victorian faeries were done.

So, is this the end? Just because you can't take on the Chairman's Challenge?
No Way! I've come too far! Faewine's not going anywhere. I'll just have to rearrange things and come up with a new slant! I'm thinking 18th century or earlier! I can do it!

Sounds like you're pretty fired up! You ready to take on the experts, even as a novice?
We all gotta start somewhere, right? *thumbs up* I can do it!

Interviewer: This is only one of many projects for you, is it not?
Oh, yes. I love to design new stuff all the time.

That must mean you have a lot of finished designs ready for publication?
Uhh... yeah, yeah, right. In fact, I... uh... hey, look over there! It's Ron Edwards and Vincent Baker! They're entering the contest together under a false name!

Where?

Hey, where'd he go?

*peeks about looking for Ron or Vincent in a bad wig registering as BritneySpearsAvidGameDeisgner* *shrugs*

Interviewer: Looking around it's getting pretty heated up. Things are really rolling now. Look at those dishes!
- *sweats* Yep.

Interviewer: You've seem to hit a bit of lag in your stride. Is that the case?
- *sweats more* Yes, I seem to have zapped all my expertise and invention for today. Looks like it's time for a break till tomorrow. Perhaps I'll study the activities of the other cooks...

Interviewer: So you had a bit of a sleep in the kitchen, I hear.

Just needed to get my strength back. Was a bit tapped out after my first day's efforts. :(

Interviewer: (sotto voce: roll the tape!) Indeed. It must be tiring. Oh look, here you are, face down in your mixing bowl!

Um, ah... Nothing to see here! Look the competition is over a week. We gotta sleep sometime! Plus I do have another job, you know...

Interviewer: Look! You are drooling into your pastry dough!

*runs off screaming in shame*

Interviewer: I see you already have a culinary theme linked into your "Dinner Party" game.
- Yes, food is definitely an important part of the game. Food is a basic human need, and the sharing of food is an important ritual. The irony is that, while this act of sharing is going on, the guests and hosts are tearing each other apart socially.

Interviewer: If your game was a particular type of food, what wold it be?
- Lets see now... it's a product of the 70's, and it's something you can pick up and serve with minimal preparation. Maybe it's a Vesta Curry?

Interviewer; So you finally got an idea for the event?
Yeah, I'm running a little behind of the others, but I like to think that perfection takes time.

Interviewer;Perfection eh? Aren't you a little worried about your game being to outlandish? Not in theme, or perhaps, not even the right contest? You've got some pretty odd ideas that might push against what can be called an RPG.
Hey, hey now! The theme may be odd, but I chose a historical period that inspires me, and I think I can use it to make some pretty delicious game. And as to my ideas, there's room in this pot for more than conventional ideas. I can't wait to see what happens when I mix in some card- and strategic-board-game based elements into my flavorful RPG.

Interviewer;Alright then, sounds like you're pretty confident and pumped up for this. Anything to say to the competion before we cut to commercial?
Just that I'm thrilled to be attempting a game desing alongside some amazing other developers, including people who's designs I have a lot of respect for. It's going to be a heck of a contest!

Aaaaand we're back! We've managed to track down one of the more elusive designers.

Um. Could you turn off that light, please? It burns.

No. Nathan-san, we've seen little from you but cryptic comments. Are you still in the contest for the long haul?

Of course! While I certainly enjoy looking through the early efforts of the other chefs here, I don't think my concoction is yet ready for the light of day.

I see. Should the other competitors see this as a lack of confidence on your part?

Hells no. I tend to play it close to the chest, is all. While my ambitions don't reach as high as some - I don't want to incorporate all of the rules limitations, etc - I beleive that my final product will be just as tasty as any here. Though, from the events of today alone, I'm starting to think that attaining victory here won't be as easy as some have expressed...

Who do you see as your main competition, so far?

Obviously, we haven't seen everything yet. But so far, I have my eye on Clinton R. Nixons entry due to its similarity to some of my ideas, and I think that The E.N.D and 1984 Prime both have some interesting combinations. But my dish isn't at the point where I can compare it with anything else in any objective manner.

What about the Chairmans Challenge?

What about it? I don't think I can rise to it in my current dish - the disadvantage of starting early, I know. But, if I end up having some extra time...

One final question...

Oh no! I think one of my pots is simmering over! *dashes away*
