Admitting defeat

Taking a step back and a good look at what I've come up with so far, it's apparent that I'm not going to complete anything by the deadline. And as I'm not really happy with anything I've got so far, I'm not that disappointed. At least I've given it a go and will be better prepared for the next time; whether it's Game Chef or a 24 hour game, or... something else.
I would like to thank everybody here for their amicability and camaraderie. Especially all those who've thrown around ideas and offered new perspectives. I appreciate everything.
Looking forward to reading some entries,
Gordon

Don't think you are alone. I'm having one hell of a time pulling this game together (still working right now) before the deadline. I switched projects in midstream and never realized just how long this game was going to be (I'm on the 21st page as I type this). Starting to feel like the little engine that couldn't...

Me too. I mean, I'm not admitting defeat yet, but I've got about 5 hours to do a FUCKLOAD of work. I decided for my project Hegemony, to get it done in time, to not rely on cards because it would take too long to make: Rather Events and the like are drawn from Trump cards, and you look at a chart to see what the Trump card signifies.
5 hours... well, 4 after dinner (and if I miss dinner my girlfriend will murder me). Wish me luck!

I had to admit defeat.
First - I had too many ideas.
Then - I had two ideas.
I finally went with my second idea, which was less "marketable" but more "novel." Unfortunately, I think the novelty became a bigger hurdle than I expected. That along with starting a new job this week, and ended up working several double shifts. The double shifts demolished me. I had to admit defeat on Friday, unless I wanted to go without sleep.
But, I believe I have two ideas that I can work into two decent games - we won't know til they're playtested, right? Plus, I got an okay to write a Pirate adaption on Joshua BishopRoby's "Our Steel, King's Law."
All and all, I was happy with how everything worked out, finally moving from long time lurker to a participant.
Thanks Iron Chef!

I was lucky, lucky, lucky. But my entry is a little unfinished.
I wrapped up what I had at 11:55 and uploaded it. Unfortunately, it was like leaving a patient with a potentially killer blod clot or something.
The game is playable, but only barely, as I didn't have time to write down all the cards or even the character sheets; But knowing that I'd run out of time, I took a step back and wrote examples of what teh cards and sheets WOULD look like, so that the players "can design their own!" Ha. Yeah, I'll fix that after the contest.
