Due to his moral code, Brisbane cannot ditch Richards. THerefore, he tries to roll aside to avoid the beast's charge, then take a shot at it. Catch the creature in crossfire.
Calm Nerves apply to it, and also, I'd like to use his Honor score. If possible, spend a Story Point.
Brisbane's movement seems to catch the beast's attention, it adjusts it's course to intercept him. Both men fire as it collides with Brisbane.
So Richard's shot actually kills the creature with some room to spare. As such JK gets to say what happens to the creature and how it dies.
However. Brisbane is hit full force with the impact at a strength of 14. Minus 1 for Brisbane's strength is 13 points of SP. Normally Brisbane would be effectively dead at this point and without someone with a medicine skill there to help him he'd be done for.
BUT. ES said he wanted to spend an SP on the contest (at this point he'd be at -1). This doesn't give him a attribute bonus. It either makes a contest a critical success or a critical failure based on who won the contest. Brisbane's Agility is 3 the creature's is 5 so Brisbane lost the contest, which bizarrely enough will save him.
A critical failure means the GM gets to impose a complication.
The beast smashes into Brisbane and bowls him over several times. The now dead two ton animal comes to a stop on top of him.
By getting a critical failure Brisbane gets 4 more SP! He gets through the turn with 3 SP left. He's battered and bruised but he's alive! But also trapped beneath the creature. Richards will have to figure out how to get him out quickly or he will suffocate.
Right after taking his shooting position Richards was in the zone. Totally focused on the charging creature he is unaware of Brisbane's movements.
Noticing the slight change in focus Richards adjusts his aim ever so slightly, and with only feet to spare he squeezes the trigger, at the same time he hears Brisbane do the same.
Richards could tell the shot was on mark as the bulk to the creature shuddered and then went limp, dropping head first into the leaf covered ground, it was only then he realized that Brisbane was directly in the path of the rolling mass of dead animal.
"Bris . . ." Richards shout chokes off as he watches Brisbane vanish under the careening corpse, "Pedro! Need help!" Richards rushes to the side of the creature and frantically grabs a couple of short semi rotten logs to jam under the carcass in an attempt to lessen the weight on Brisbane.
Pedro and the boys quickly appear amazed that the creature is actually dead then they notice Richards' frantic efforts.
"Get to the village! We need horses and a block and tackle! NOW!" Richards yells over his shoulder as he continues to attempt to block up the mass of the beast. Pedro with a nod sends the two boys racing and quickly moves in to assist Richards.
"We have to lessen the load on hi to pull him out, or at least keep him breathing!" Richards is speaking a mile a minute as Pedro starts to work along side him. "Logs, rocks anything."
Richards is going to use his Intelligence to hopefully jury-rig a solution to at least keep Brisbane from suffocating. This will include using logs & Debris to "block up" the mass of the creature, along with some shallow trenching to give Brisbane room to squirm free, and possibly is he's able to combining the two techniques to roll the bulk off of Brisbane. Tricks: Read & Write: Grasp Principle (+1 Int) Tactics: Terrain (+1 Int); Surroundings (+1 Int) Forage: Examine Environment (+1 Int); Identify (+1 Int)

As Brisbane in trouble hits two values (ie No One Left Behind & A Friend in Need) Richards is going to strain and keep at it until Brisbane is free or Richards has a heart attack.

Ooo that's something that needs to be in the game somewhere. A trick that turns Honor into willpower when a personal code is at stake. I weep for the havoc that it will cause for the Calm Nerves trick but it must happen!
The plan works, sort of. With Pedro digging away, and Richards propping up the carcass you find Brisbane. Or rather you find his hand.
Int is high enough, Will is high enough, Perception is too low. You approached from the wrong angle. Try again with an increased perception. You have two more tries.
Cursing his luck, the jungle, the corpse, and to a smaller extent both Pedro and Brisbane Richards take a step back for a short moment, "If I had some dynamite . . ." shaking that thought away Richards returns to the task with a renewed focus and slightly modified plan.
Scores: Int 11 (8 +3 from Tricks) Per 3 (1 +2 from Tricks) Hon 7* Str 3
*Honor values should give a bonus like role-playing, and not be just a straight equation to will. Maybe for every value that can be role-played as being at risk gain +1, or even a +1 for every two values at risk.
Anyway this is try #2 . . . wish Pedro was a little more helpful

With Pedro's (+2 Per) help, Richards uncover Brisbane's head and give him enough breathing room to survive. A half hour later, the three dozen of tribesmen arrive and they help roll the monster over.
So at this point we can finish up if you want. There was supposed to be a different plot going on but it was from Drakeknight's story seeds and I haven't heard from him so I just went with JK's and ES'. I'll leave that up to you guys if you want to continue but I figure that's that.
Pfft I wrote the last post in a rush, basically I can continue or we can stop. Thank you guys for playing, this was fun and challenging. I learned a lot and hope we'll get a chance to do it again sometime.
Three SP for both of your characters. Of course that only helps if you play again.
I want to give you guys the chance to do your own epilogue for the game. After that I'll do a post, I want to throw out there what didn't happen. It may be amusing.
