Unexpectedly Awesome

You are you. Each turn roll 3d4. Each number is a different result. (Stealing from Rubbermancer, sorta)

1 = Success, what you did this turn met with success.
2= Failure, what you did met with failure.
3 = Awesome, something awesome happened. Maybe you awesomely succeeded, maybe you awesomely failed.
4 = Unexpected, something unexpected happens. Maybe because of what you did or maybe on it's own.

Each roll the number of results of any one kind amplifies the degree of that type of result.

Ding! 5min. Guess I'm not as fast at typing as those guys at SG.

The game takes place in a doomed city that is about to be destroyed by some force (e.g. Sodom, Pompei or Atlantis) and portrays the last days (or even hours) of the characters living there. Buildings are collapsing, there's panic on the streets, every step counts. To represent these harsh conditions, each player starts with a number of tokens (let's say 23), these tokens are "burnt", sacrificed, to overcome obstacles.
Simple test: the DM (Doom Master) sets a difficulty level (1 is easy, 5 is very hard) but keeps it secret, only describing it with a few words. Then the player who takes the test place any number of tokens on the table. The number of tokens is compared to the difficulty level. If equal or more, the player passes the test and discards HALF of the tokens he/she chose (rounded down. One becomes zero). If less, the player fails AND discards ALL tokens. Tough times.
Challenges: when two characters interact in any way, they both make a bid. In case of a draw, they may agree upon a neutral result and both lose half of the chosen tokens; or bid again. The higher bidder discards half and wins, the lower discards ALL and looses.
Tokens are NEVER gained, but in case of some heroic deed, the DM may rule that the player does not have to discard any tokens.

(Took me about 8 minutes to write it up, though)

Edit: should have named it "So Doomed"

Wow, bloody cool games, guys! OK, I'm gonna give this a shot too...

Gonzo Turbo Transmogrificatory Bonanza 3000

There is a volatile magical object in the center of the table, an artifact of pure chaos. Whenever anybody touches it, they become something else, according to the following table:

1) A material entity
2) A magical energy
3) A metaphor
4) A clone of another player.

And time's up, so... GO!

Hehehe, that happened to me the first couple of times I tried it too. I don't think most people over at story-games paid attention to the 5-minute limit. The spirit of the whole thing was to make a game quick quick quick. I tried to keep to 5 minutes, just to see if I could. It's hard!

Set up:
You need at least two players and one deck of playing cards (take out Jokers)

Premise:
The game is GM-less and all players play as Dragons. You can pillage innocent towns and fight your scaly brethren for supremacy.

How to Play:
At the start of the game, all of the players draw a card from the deck. The highest number drawn wins, and they take the first turn. If there is a tie, use this table to resolve: Diamonds beats Hearts, Hearts beats Clubs, Clubs beats Spades, and Spades beats Diamonds. If they tie AND are of the same suit, the cards are re-shuffled and they draw again. The play order goes to the left of whoever took the first turn.

During your turn, you can do three things: Pillage, Rest, or Challenge. To Pillage, narrate your dragon going over to the nearest village, then pick a two cards of the top of the deck. The first represents you while the second represents the village. If you get an equal to or higher card than the village, you pillage it successfully; draw a card (keep it face down) and hold onto it. If the village wins, you lose one of the cards you have collected; if you have no cards, you are slain. For ties, use the same rules as deciding first player.

To Rest, simply describe that you are going to slumber peacefully. You may take a card without fear of losing any. However, if the card you take is a Spade, your rest was disturbed and you must put the card back (your turn is then over). While Resting, you are vulnerable to being attacked by other Dragons.

Challenging refers to preying on other dragons. To Challenge, choose another player that you want to challenge and then narrate your Dragon storming their lair. Flip over a card from the deck, then have your opponent do the same. If you get equal to or higher than them, you successfully pillage their lair. You steal one of the cards they acquired. If they have no cards, you slay them. If you get a lower card than your opponent, they defend against the attack (your turn ends). If the Dragon you challenge is Resting, then you instead get to flip over two cards an use the highest.

Note on Face Cards:
Aces = 1, Jacks = 11, Queens = 12, Kings = 13

Winning:
Normal length game: You win the game when you collect cards whose numbers add up to 27. You also win if all of the other Dragons die.
Long game: You win the game when you collect cards whose numbers add up to 40.

Okay... that was about 12 minutes I think, but that's still pretty quick!!!

EDIT: Clarifications. When you draw a card to see who goes first, you keep this card (have it face up). This doesn't count toward your winning total but can be stolen or lost.
Every time you get a card, put it on top of the last card you got to form a pile. When you lose a card or get on stolen, take it from the bottom of your pile.
