Moving Obyrworld into Anadar

The Rings of Obyrworld was a one-shot I wrote for GenCon 2008. I ran it very little but I like the idea of the setting and it does fit the Scavenger Setting rather well. As such, I will be moving Obyrworld into Anadar. Obyrworld is a planet with rings of debris caused by the destruction of the Orb space stations that orbited it. These huge man-made moons formed rings of debris, which are both dangerous and full of treasures. The planet surface has become not only the market for the valuables found in the rings but a criminal element will strip any unwitting space craft that lands there undefended. The crew can always find work crewing a space craft to search the rings for valuables.

Other changes to the Scavenger Setting will include fewer systems across only a single Cluster. This makes for a tighter game (less rambling), which is necessary to act as an introduction setting for Icar.

The posters for that game look so cool, shame there wasn't a bigger response at gencon.

I have to say this sounds like a cool planet setup..

So where are these Posters?

The poster is here: http://picasaweb.google.com/brainwiped/ ... 9582056594 I'll be using the planet/space scene in version 4, naturally.

It was a pity I didn't get another game out of Gen Con (had two planned, run only one) but it goes to show what a closed event GenCon UK had become. Roleplayers went there to play the "living campaigns" rather than try something new. Next year (when Felix is a bit bigger), I'll be attending a few other cons in the UK, such as Conception on the south coast. It's got a better reputation for indie games being tried out.

My experience trying to run something homebrew or free - even at University clubs - is that most roleplayers when offered the choice between something they recognise and something entirely new, they will go for that which is familiar. Sad but true.

Bah, and they call themselves 'roleplayers'? Cowardly little non-gamers is what they are.

I've never understood why someone would go to a game convention at all, knowing full well they are only going to play a couple of games crowded into someone's hotel room, with the same troupe they've been playing with since school. The rest of the time is spent playing a video game online. Some people--and this makes me sad for humanity--go to conventions exclusively to play games online with other people at that same convention. They never meet. They don't even leave the room until it's time to check out...

@Kinslayer Going to conventions to play computer games in a room with people they don't converse with? Why go to a convention at all? At the LAN gaming parties I attend, I love the camaraderie of playing together and shooting people in the face that sit across from you.

Gen Con was great not only for checking out new games but for having someone new to GM you. I like seeing how other people GM so that I can improve what I do - or avoid things I might do that I don't like.

No, but it's another possible. Not too far from here. I have heard some superb things about Conception from people I respect. Also, I know some chaps going to 'Baycon' (hmmmmm.... Baycon) this year and although they are planning to kidnap me but it's a no-goer just yet. Once my in-laws get back and Kate has some assistance, I might be able to plan a con.

Once v4 is done, I'll probably try and get in as many cons as I can!

Are there any Cons near you? Kiltcon (no skirt necessary)?

like the sound of Obeyer world it sounds similar to a game i've been working on. it's the site of a deep space battle in which ALL of the ships involved, human and droid alike were lost. thats a total of about seventy ships, now before you get visions of a sargasso sea of lost ships actualy thare is only ONE still relitively intact, five hulks large enough to explore includeing a seven deck hull section, the rest are a massive debri cloud formed around the larger objects.
oh and now you have to screen that what your salvageing isnt droid tech!

myself i prefer the frontier feel of the Scav setting as it stands, if you want a tighter focus for beginers have them
start at a very specific point, in a particular system for example, with the rest of the systems there for them to expand into.
