Sodding Internet Explorer 8 and a nasty fix

I'm working on the new Icar website and I want to make it as clean and as future-proof as I can. The layout template (in another thread) is being tweaked and I'm setting it up so that it scales nicely depending on what you're using (phone/netbook/tablet/desktop/laptop/projection onto the side of the Moon). I'm using HTML5 because I think it offers the cleanest way to layout the information. Having a <nav> element, for example, makes me all wobbly at the knees.

Internet Explorer 8 (and below) can't style tags it doesn't recognise. Which is backward. It's so far backwards that you might think it's quite forward thinking. A close minded thinking. However, after some googling, I found that converts all the html 5 elements into divs for IE8 and lower. It's not nice but it's a fix for old crapness rather than to leave in for the future.
