I have a new version but I'm having a problem

Spent Sunday afternoon preparing a new version with new Sector maps (in colour!) and some updates to the Space Combat rules. When I came to publish the new PDF, it created a PDF that was 950MB! Blimey! Since my new OS install, some of my settings in InDesign have gone awry.

I tried hunting for the old setting to no avail so I am back to trying to work out how to make the PDF be about 80MB. My first settings-fiddle was to use one of the other Adobe Presets but that turned out a file that was 1.6GB! I have no idea why it would be churning out a file that is THAT large. I'll keep playing with it this week and see if I can get it to the point people might actually want to download it. :)

If you have the full version of Acrobat, a quick and dirty way to see how small you can get a file down to is to use the "Reduce File Size" in the file (? I think not looking at it right now) menu. It does a nasty hack of a reduction but it's about as small as I've gotten a file.

Thanks mate. I am currently working with the PDF Export settings. I need to get them right or I am sunk! It will make it very hard to do anything in the future. I can't see where I might have anything big in the file - all the complex stuff is reduced down to images.

So, you've got the new version out, what was the problem?

To be honest, mate, I am not sure what the problem was. I've been using the same settings for PDF export for ages but some some reason it was making the files HUGE. I restarted and toyed with the settings some more but I am not convinced that it was my settings changing that made a difference.

It's come done to 46MB now, without and obvious drop in quality. So, yay!
