Progress update - May 2019

I've all my progress in recent months. It does feel like editing Version 5 is going quicker in small amounts than trying to do the whole lot in one go with layout getting in the way.

I'm pleased that I have the combat systems largely sorted out, although it does need another round of editing.

I'm currently wading through the background, which needs some serious love. I think it might be a kitchen-sink method of writing, rather than keeping to just the poignant stuff the GM and players need to know. I think there might be something of a hard-edit going on there! I won't _throw_ anything away, I'll move stuff I don't need _now_ into a snippets file and then I can call on it later. It's more about condensing the fat.

Cool! Good to hear you're making progress. I've started writing for The Artifact 4e in google docs but I'm not sure where I want to go with layout. I should go with Affinity Publisher but the one thing I can't easily import tables and I have a lot of them. I know what I should do, I'm just a little reluctant to switch over.

I enjoyed your blog post on the matter, sir. Does AP do a copy-and-paste feature that will accept tables? Have you asked on the AP forums? There seems to be something of a community there.

That's a good question, my last attempt was from google docs to AP. I tried what I could think of and ended up typing them by hand. The big issue is formatting each table so I had a few that I would copy and paste to keep the format. Sometimes I could copy the text from a docs table into an AP table but it was hard to get right. I can't imagine that a lot of people interested in publishing software need a lot of support for tables!

Yeah, not doing layout as you go is really hard to resist. I'm hating how my google docs writing looks as a standard page but leaving it is the "right" way to do it I keep telling myself. If only I could get myself to believe it.
