Background edited, moving onto the new Bionics

My goodness, I can waffle. And I'm afraid that a lot of the bloat in v4 isn't detail, it's repetition or a really odd use of language. I was in academia when I wrote a lot of it; so it's not that big a surprise that some of the passive voice comes off oddly but it allows me to cut it down a lot.

Here's a blog post on into smaller text but with more content.

I'm currently working on bionics. The existing system is based around the core concept of "how would I engineer them if they were real" rather than "what's useable". I am moving to a system where adding bionics is easier, there are premade systems and the emphasis is on the abilities that the bionics give you. Hopefully that'll come across.

As always, you can get a sneak preview of the rules as I convert them into Markdown format from the open source .

I've been teaching myself Blender and it's going really well. I find it easier to learn new things than in Lightwave (even though I'm old and my neural plasticity has shrunk) because of the sheer volume of tutorials on YouTube. Lightwave doesn't have the same enthusiast base, so it's a great time to get into Blender. The 2.8 release has made it even easier to use.

I'm almost at the point where I could rebuild all the 3D in Blender but I'm going to wait until I've finished working my way through this I've bought. For v5, some of the old renders will go into the book to start with and then as I improve on my skills, I'll update them piecemeal. If I wait until I've re-rendered everything then v5 will never get out the door.

It's kind of nice when you look at a old bit of writing you did and go "blech" and then rewrite it better. You realize "Hey I'm getting better at this!"

The new approach to Bionics sounds interesting and I can't wait to see your new renders.

I started playing with Blender a long time ago. I need to pick it back up. Maybe I might be able to do something with it this time?

I think I knew what the word count for The Artifact was at one point. I've forgotten. And yes, I'm thinking about reducing it but it's not something I'm dedicated to. If I think it makes sense to reduce it and it serves the game I will.

What I am thinking of doing is a choose your own adventure style instruction booklet that teaches you how to play. I'm just trying to figure out what adventure that should be. That way someone that has never played could pick up the book, have some solo play and learn how the game works. I'm thinking of having different choices lead to entirely different situations and different mechanics.
