This Bright Society

Is it too late to join?

I would like to put together a Utopia/Dystopia setting together:

Nearly every human head includes an internet interface that provides exciting new abilities. Just thinking about that old friend of yours can bring up the opportunity to "think-message" back and forth. If you're tired of work, you can just partition your mind and play a game while the body operates unnoticed. You can learn to do anything in a matter of seconds. It's amazing! And you got it all for free! A few years ago, only a few "special" people were able to own and operate these devices. They were expensive and experimental. Then "The Family" came along with "The Gift". It was offered for free as long as you agreed to answer marketing research questions (no more than 5 easy, yes-or-no questions) a few times a week.

In truth, The Family is now the most powerful organization in the world. Every question-session is really a chance for them to hack into your mind and delete, modify or input thoughts. They "suggest" reactions to political views and rewire relationships that may threaten them. The middle class is almost gone. The poor struggle but manage to numb their pains with the myriad of thrilling distractions available to them. 16 hour work-days glide by as the masses (also known as the Extended Family) are confused and beguiled by all the wonderful choices offered by The Gift. Meanwhile, the suicide rate is skyrocketing and a frightening new terrorist group, called the Ghouls, made up of foreigners and some kind of bio-mutated monsters seek to destroy everything.

Mechanic:

I'm still working on a mechanic. I can't decide if I want to go with a crazy new idea I have or stick with a minimal/conventional method.

Goals:

I want this game to present a real spooky feel with the players looking over their shoulders all the time. At the same time, I would like to give the players opportunities to really shine and to back up other players.

Possible Solutions:

I'll work on building Flags into the character generation mechanics. I'll look for ways to reward players for bringing other players into focus. I'll offer ways to present multiple dangers in every scenario.

Other Thoughts:

I'd love for this game to play out like the old Invaders television show. Players could slowly build a network of collaborators and believers.

Welcome ,

You still have 3 months to complete your game. Some of these here masochists have written an rpg in 24hrs! I think you have enough time! :)

I will add your project to "the list"

Thank you.

I love Dr. Who but don't get many chances to watch it. I almost settled on taking the safer route but you gave me the courage to push forward with the crazy mechanic. I hope I can work it out.

If not, there is still time to change it as well.

Also, wikias are quite useful for times likes these: http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/Bad_Wolf_(TV_story)

I played with my crazy idea and found it really hard to use. It took too much time away from the narrative and failed to contribute anything to the feeling of the game. I think I will switch to a liar's dice mechanic because it will give the players opportunities to outwit the Powers-That-Be (which will be called an Uncle or Aunt in This Bright Society) but also add a risk-taking element that will improve the creepiness of the game.

Grud!

I'm not going to make it. I really like the work people are doing. Unfortunately, my life is in fast forward mode and I just couldn't find the time to work on mine. I'll turn it in at some point just to share.

I'm sorry to hear that, Logan.

Still, please please please do finish it and share it in the future. The competition element may be coming to a close but the community is still here!

So what is this Family about? Where did they come from and how did they get this miraculous technology?
