General Progress Report:

I've done a heck of a lot of the writing work already (and I have a whole universe of fluff to pare down!), so in my mind all that's left is assembling it into the final layout with some artwork and see how far over/under the 30-page limit I actually am. I'm probably making things more difficult because I want to fit it into a 5"x7.75" book eventually (making it the same size as the print volume I've already made for the comic, 'cause dammit, they ought to go together).

The actual mechanic is still hazy. I'm torn between using RPS (Simpler for more LARP-y conditions) vs. a d20, mebbe a d6 for simplicity's sake. Let's be fair, it just doesn't feel like an RPG to me without a d20, but I know that if dice are the order of the day and marketing is on the horizon, it's a lot easier to get custom D6's made vs. any other type of custom dice.

This concept edition is going to stick to just "six" species to help keep the page count down -- Anyr, Talmi, Kendril, Vidian, Zillan, and (of course) Human. It's a good mix of sizes and scales vs. skins, plus it makes mixing and matching between the lot for Celeste more straightforward.

I've also adjusted the introduction to make it more classically cyberpunk in the "How the hell did it come to THIS?!" sense, though it's more a case of explaining what went right/wrong in the story to justify humanity getting along with a bunch of aliens in the future and how dealing with the undead becomes cyberpunk-ish instead of just being horror flick material.

Progress Report:

After letting the project stew for a while (and deciding on a workable albeit clumsy gameplay mechanic), I've gone ahead and put it together into a prepress* PDF form. Fitting it into the smaller pages is a little tough, but it fits, and that's the important part.

I'm going to take a copy of the PDF over to some friends I'm hanging out with this weekend to have them give it a look-over, but editing should be pretty easy. The main issue now is putting all the artwork together for the book.

I'm trying to use art I've already done for the comic where it's appropriate, although that's only a fraction of the artwork, just because I only have so many large illustrations of just one species or one spectrum. So some of the art will be brand new, some won't. I need an excuse to work on my purely B&W alt-style anyway...

A clumsy game mechanic for an anthropomorphic space game?

I've never seen that before <cough>Albedo</cough>.

So you have nothing to worry about. If Steve and Paul could get away with it, I'm sure you'll be fine.

Awesome, I love the idea of an RPG that accompanies a comic.

It's something I've been trying to get motivated on for a while.

Hello, Reality! You've been especially cruel lately...

... okay, so my editing and abilities to illustrate new artwork for the book are going slow, and I'm finding myself stretching to find acceptable (i.e. still relevant) substitute images to go in places I was going to draw new artwork for the book. It's okay, I'm still alive, and reusing artwork from the comic isn't a sin.

The book at this point is 30 pages, minus the table of contents and covers. All that's really left now is making with the pretty and submitting it.

Submitted to the 1KM1KT site, as per misterecho's recommendations. Hopefully that's all I need to do...

YES! It's POSTED!

You can start pawing through the game in one of two ways:

The Best Way is to . You'll get a link to the PDF once you've signed up. It'll keep you informed on game updates, the eventual print version of the RPG (not to mention future expansion packs!), and other LR-related goodies.

The Easiest Way
is to just .

Both ways are free, through the mailing list does ask for your email address. You can always unsubscribe later, and you'll only be sent LR-related stuff.I'm just trying to make it easier for folks that care to go ahead and make sure they stay in the loop.

Enjoy!
