Darrel's eyes begin to clear slightly and he sees a little figure shaped out of newspaper. It had even a little newsboy hat made completely out of newsprint. It held a pencil next to a pad of paper and behind it there were other such creatures. One held a boom microphone, another had a camera with that blinding flash. A third was just standing around with a small tape recorder in it's hand, waiting for Darrel to answer the question.

The paper opens up to form a mouth on the first one, the one with the pencil and paper, and the same whiskey and cigars voice asked, "We've seen the body, there's plenty of evidence. If you don't know how, then Why did you kill him!"

There is only the cathedral wall, and floor that Gregory finds. There isn't a way back to where he was, and the doors at the other end seem less real, more as if they were painted on rather than an actual exit.

Racing up the pillar, Gregory is met with further gruesome deaths that all these martyrs had met. Machines that eviscerated people to sway them from the Grace of God. Ropes and pulleys set up to dislocate every single bone in the body. People in various states of agony in pots, on stakes, with others. In each there is an sculpture of a leering figure, with a cloak that is handling the various torturous instruments. The eyes on that figure are made of a different material than the rest of the pillar and they seem to reflect the torch light that seems the follow the good Father up the stairs.

When he pauses, the climb is long an arduous he sees that the floor beneath him is but an empty black space, as if the way above him. All the while the organ music keeps playing, though the moaning is getting louder.

Darrel stands stock still for 5 whole seconds. An uncomfortable silence between him and the newsprint reporters. He then slams the door.

I'm tripping... but this doesn't feel like any trip i've had before. this is real!

Darrel then runs to the window fire escape. Pulls open the ancient sash window and starts scrambling down the side of the building, on the decrepit rusty ladder.

A wave of dizziness threatens to sweep over Gregory as he looks down into the blackness below. After pausing for a few moments, leaning against the pillar, Gregory continues up the stairs - not knowing why, but really seeing no other way out of this dream of his.

Darrel scrambles down the fire escape, stumbling on the last few rungs. Looking back up at the window he sees that the creatures have run out, but they seem to be ransacking his place rather than following him. Turning though he sees that he's standing on a regular street. Nothing in particular seems to be different, and everyone else is going about their business during the day. The glaring sun causes you to squint.

Of course, that's when your support worker Jannie Hyde shows up. "Darrel, are you okay?" She asks, a little confused as to why you climbed down your fire escape. You can see disappointment in her face.

In what seems like an eternity, Gregory has appeared to make it unto the Kingdom of Heaven. At least those are the words that are engraved on the Gate that he found at the top of the stairs. The moaning is louder here, as well as the organ music. It's a painful cacophony and it is almost loud enough to hurt. The blackness extends right up to the last stair, it is as if the world beyond is missing.

At his words, Jannie's face softened and she said, "Sure thing. Anything to help out. Coffee on me, okay?"

Reaching the top of the stairs Gregory, now slightly out of brief, crosses himself more out of instinct than any real belief. The thought crosses his mind that maybe he banged his head while running through the church and this is just a dream - or maybe those restless nights finally made him crack.

Not knowing what else to do, Gregory slowly approaches the gate and called out in a loud whisper (if that makes sense).

"Hello? Anyone there?"

Darren returns a soft smile as he quietly wonders what she was doing in the alley next to his apartment. Just as he finishes the thought a soft rain starts to patter down onto his jacket. Darrel pulls up his collar and curls into the neck a little as he starts towards the main street.

"Let's go before we get soaked."
