[Father Gregory Wilson]

Gregory walks through the doors of the gate, wondering if anyone is there when he suddenly finds himself back inside the church. He was in the chapel of his church, with the same plain wooden walls and wooden pews with the altar at the far end. It was almost as if he had been dreaming, but he knew for a fact that he wasn't sleeping -- hadn't been sleeping as of late and it was obviously starting to get to him.

The watch he was wearing beeped at him, looking down he saw that it was time for tea with the auxillary to talk about fundraising for the fall. A bunch of elderly women nattering on about bake sales and book drives. It was inside the hall next to the rectory.

Darrel and Jannie make it to the café just as the rain starts to come down, and it comes down in sheets. Everyone inside the place watches out the window in shock. The downpour is pretty thick and seems to have come out of nowhere. A few keep staring, a few others order another coffee knowing that they're going to stay there for the next little while waiting out this storm.

Jannie goes to the counter and gets a couple of coffees as Darrel finds a seat. He thinks he sees a few things out of the corner of his eye in the rain, shapes that don't actually belong there. That or that there are people walking out in that thing. They seem to vanish when Jannie shows up with two steaming cups and a smile and saying, "Talk to me. What's going on?"

Darrel sits with back against the wall looking over Jannie's shoulder at the torrential rain and the strange shapes within them.

I've haven't slept, even before I came off the smack. I'm not sure how long, weeks or months. I haven't touched a joint, a drink or shot up once in days. I'm hallucinating really bad. I'm freaking out, I don't know what to do.

Maybe I'm sick, or something. I'll be alright, if i could just get some sleep. The hallucinations, they're like nothing I've ever seen before.

Darrel leans in toward Jannie and whispers

I seen someone literally explode in my apartment, then these reporters made from newspaper started invading my house. That's why I escaped down the fire exit.

Jannie listens, with a caring look on her face. Darrel can't tell if she believes that he's seeing things, or that he hasn't slept, but he can tell that she's showing a level of concern for him that a lot of other people haven't ever. Even if it's faked, it's a damned sight better than what's gone on before.

She takes a sip from her coffee cup and says, "I know that this isn't really in the rules, but if you need me to get you some sleeping medication I can do that. Something to help make sure that you get some rest. Especially if you've been seeing things like that." She takes another sip and continues, "nothing illegal, over the counter stuff and I can just give you enough for one night's rest. That way there isn't anything there that could be seen as you falling back into stuff."

She leaned forward as the rain came down loud enough to add a slight percussion background to her words. "Would you want me to do that for you?"

As his church appears around him again, another shiver runs through Gregory. Knowing that he is meant meet with those old ladies shortly, he makes his way to the bathroom and splashes some cold water on his face, trying to wake himself up. Gregory is well aware that if he missed his meeting here the ladies would be gossiping about it for the next couple of months and he was already in some of their bad-books after having to sneeze during mass a fortnight ago. Checking the time again he straightens his clothes and makes his way towards what is certain to be an hour of boredom - determined not to let his tiredness get the better of him again.

Jannie shakes her head, "All I see is the rain coming down pretty hard, a couple of cars on the road that don't know any better and someone who is in desperate need of some sleep." The young woman stares at her charge, very intently and says, "If you need something to help you get to sleep, let me know. I'll do what I can."

The she downs her cup of coffee and stands up. "I have to get going, even in this." She points to the rain out the window, "I have a couple more cases I need to get to before the end of the day."

[Father Gregory]

The day meeting went about as expected. There were the group of little old ladies that had been at the church for years talking about how the kids aren't coming to church anymore, and how they needed to raise money for the homeless shelter that was down the street and how so-so did such-such with them over there. At the end of it, they all stood up, thanked father Gregory for his attention and made their way out.

One person, a women in the far back corner, continued to sit there looking forward as if she was in a daze. She gazed in one direction, not looking at the members of the axillary and strangely enough they ignored her. It was as if she didn't exist at all. She just sat and muttered to herself.

Thanks, I'll see you next week.

Darrel sits and finishes his coffee, he sits around knowing he isn't welcome. Long after he's finished his coffee he is still sitting in the little coffee shop, looking intently out the window.

When he feels the waitress is growing close to asking him to leave he gathers his jacket from the back of the chair, curls up into and heads out into the torrential downpour.

Walking out into this rain feels like a completely different experience. The rain is coming down, and you feel it hit, but it doesn't feel like any rain that you're used to feeling. It hits, but it seems muted, as if it's not producing the same sounds as it would if it were hitting normally. A few steps outside and Darrel is soaked, and he can't see the diner where he just was. It's as if the world suddenly decided that he could only see what was going on with him, and the rest of the world be damned.

The shapes haven't gone away, in fact they've gotten closer and there is a very distinct ticking noise coming from everywhere. It's as if a bunch of clocks have been set at almost the same time, there's a slight off tick somewhere that's dissonant, but it's just barely off that Darrel only catches it every so often.
