Walks into the right hand side of the street and begins walking, with his right foot scraping along the curb. He heads vaguely in the direction of home, or at least where he remembers it.

The good father inwardly curses. Why now? Don't people know he's got his own problems without worrying about theirs too? Knowing his duty, even if he wants nothing more than to crawl into bed and pray that sleep comes, he goes over and sits beside the lone lady; silently, waiting for her to speak.

He keeps walking, and the rain comes down so hard and fast that he doesn't remember what it felt like to be dry. The only thing he's aware of is that it's taking a lot longer to get to his apartment than it did before and that the ticking noise is getting louder. It's as if he's making his way towards it.

[Father Gregory]

As soon as he sits down next to the young woman, she turns her head towards him. Her eyes have bags underneath them, deeper and darker than he's ever seen in his life and probably mirror the exhaustion he feels inside himself. She says, "You should probably get out of here. He knows where you are, and he doesn't like us."

Darrel continues with dogged detirmination, The rythic waking mixed with obscured vision creates another zen like state. It's as close to sleeping he has been in a while. He doesn't remember how long he's been walking or in which direction.

Darrel's dogged determination makes this walk feel like it's forever. One foot up, then the other in a rhythmic, lulling kind of way. Step, step, step.

The only thing that stops him from walking forever is a large shadowy scene that starts coming through the rain. At first it's just a series of shadows, like watching a play through a curtain. You can see that there are people moving about in front of you but you can't make out much more than that.

Step, step, step.

A few moments later a few things come into focus. There's a large figure standing, towering over a figure that's kneeling on the ground. The looming monstrosity has a ridiculously large head from where Darrel is standing, but it's got a little police cap perched precariously on the side. It's holding an oddly shaped cane in one hand, it looks like a large clock hand.

Step, step, step.

Now Darrel is close enough to see the figure kneeling on the ground, and that he is tied in that position. He keeps shaking his head, probably to answer whatever questions the officer is asking him, and each shake is more and more emphatic. Darrel wonder's why he isn't talking.

Step.

Then he sees the gag.

Step.

He sees the wide eyed look on the man kneeling down.

Step.

The Office picks up his cane.

Step.

And runs the kneeling figure through.

Darrel is aghast and stands stock still, overcome with fear.

Not now, please! Why couldn't it wait 'til after a good sleep
The thoughts flick through his mind, uncalled.

With her words glancing straight over his head - partly due to his tiredness, partly due to seeing her tiredness - Father Gregory says in the calmest voice he can muster "You're safe here, child. They won't harm you in the house of god. Tell me, what is wrong?"

[Father Gregory]

The woman smirks at the good Father and laughs in his face. It's the kind of laugh that's tinged with bitterness and exhaustion.

"Me?" She asks, "Oh, I'm fine. I will be fine. I am going to be fine. I was just here to warn you. I'm going to be fine." She kind of half mutters the last line to herself as she rubs her arms, trying to gather some semblance of warmth. "You need to get out. I am going. I'm getting out. You should before he gets here. He seems to have taken a liking to you. You don't want him to notice you. Never notice you. It's just not good for you soul."

She repeats the last line and laughs out loud. The concept seems to amuse her.

The large figure turns to see what his victim was looking at. Darrel gets a good view of this thing's face. It's a giant clock with eyes and a mouth with jagged teeth. It looms above, taller than Darrel's largest nightmare. It takes a step towards the still figure.
