"Going Cold" like an Echo

Although I am a judge, I'll still be having a go (perhaps in March). Mr E that he would not decide the films before the 24 hours and give himself no thinking time at all. Before I wrote Cloudship Atlantis in 2009, I did have a good mull over all the topics and had a think about what I might do. Misterecho said he's going in cold. I like the bravado of it. I like the brave throwing caution to the wind.

This time, I'm going to go-in cold. Cold like an Echo.

Anyone else tempted?

Wow. that is pretty hard-core. I'm not sure if I would be down to do that, but I could be down with randomly picking two movies... rolling them like a random table or something. That would be all kinds of awesome...

Way to go, shinobicow. Take a hard challenge (24 hour RPG), make it a bit more difficult (choose from a list), make it a bit harder (no thinking time) and the final difficult nail in the game's coffin: randomly pick titles. How difficult do you want this to be for us, sir? ;)

Oh, I thought I had to do that. I'd be formulating the game in my head long before I sat down to work on it and that would violate the 24 hour concept IMHO.

I'll admit that I have been considering Aliens and Dumbo. I was thinking that because I was thinking of a game with anthropomorphic animals in a circus having their handlers slowly spawning horrific monsters and then the monsters turn on them. I haven't figured out where giant ears come into play though.

You mean I can actually plan?

mmm... If I find time for a second attempt I will go for the "Shinobicow school of hardcore game design"!

Although I have some mashups in mind that I think mix well, I haven't decided yet and so I haven't put a lot of (conscious) thought on it. But maybe all this mashups are in "incubation" deep in my unconscious, so when the time comes all the awesome ideas will just pop-up from my mind.

So I'm not (consciously) cheating.

I've wanted to do "Back to the Future + Hunt for Red October" since we started finalizing the list. More recently I've wanted to combine "Jurassic Park" and "Blade Runner". However, I can't attempt anything until I finish some overriding work, so it may be a while with too much chance to pre-think.

I may have to fall back on this idea. Anyone know where I can get some d40s?

Interesting site - I want the aircraft dice as well as those metal d4s with the suspended sphere within. However, its way too expensive for me - and misses the joke. A d40 would be very difficult/impossible to make as a fair platonic solid die. (There are reasons why the progression is 4/6/8/10/12 then skips to 20) Barrel dice and online rollers are cheating, I want non-euclidean constructs with pips, and a to store them in.
