Yes! As J K says. We have a special room for people who do more than one.

It's padded.

I've been lurking 24 hour competions for some time and decided to give it a go at this time.
Now I'll just have to board a plane flying to a western timezone to buy me some time :]

Game I came across recently due to Rob's blog: . Interesting element - "" versions of the game to let people create and equip characters simultaneously.

Observation: You need to use 24 point font to keep things legible when converting an 8 page PDF to a single pocket book.

This may be useful to me later.

I'm slightly confused by the competition rules, specifically the "little spaces" provision. I have two questions about it:
1) Is the list supposed to be exhaustive? That is, can we set a game in a small space other than those listed, or is it *only* those small geographies listed which are allowed? It seems a bit odd that we could set the game on a nuclear submarine but not in a house, for instance.
2) What about if we create a game with multiple alternate settings? Could we, for instance, write up a system and include two settings for use with it (with the possibility of further settings, a la Fiasco playsets), one on that list and one not on the list, or would this be disqualified as including material outside of the prescribed list? I'm thinking about making something where lots of different small spaces could be used, and each would give the game a slightly different flavour, etc...

Welcome Roguelettuce, thanks for your interest in the contest.

You raise some interesting questions about the use of spaces. It would be amusing to to see other places, and we generally don't like stifling an authors creativity. However, the post at the start of this thread that lists the rules rather unambiguously states as point two: "You must set your game in one of the locations in this list:"

Even if he wording was a bit less clear, I would argue that in pursuit of being considerate and allowing adequate comparison - your entry should stick to the places provided. The other entries written have stayed within the list, and it isn't fair to them change the rules and allow something else. We certainly came up with more possibilities during the planning stage of the contest, but we felt it would be wrong to overwhelm the contestants or the judges with too much diversity. Using what is provided, means the mods are "comparing apples to apples". And of course, the point of the contest is to writing under heavy constraints.

Once the twenty-four hour version of the game is done, you are welcome - even encouraged - to followup the effort with expansions and revisions.

Ok, thanks! I know that point two was very clear, but the other references to small geographies didn't seem to reference point 2 at all, and therefore implied (to my mind, personally) that anything meeting the criteria of small/closed space was allowed. I'm perfectly happy to just pick one from the list, and it doesn't substantially affect how the game plays or anything, so I'll just do that. Also, I understand entirely your logic that more constraint makes for fairer comparisons, etc.

PS: Thank you for a prompt response, as I've already started! Nothing needs changing as I left the settings until the end because of my uncertainty about the rules.

I've submitted it and started a thread for it over in the 2012 board. My arm really hurts after all that clicking and scrolling and typing, but I have a fairly workable game, and I think it has potential... :)
