Midgard News

Postby malladin_ben » Fri May 01, 2009 2:48 am

Hi Everyone,

I'm getting very close to completing Midgard V2. The playtest game has revealed much about the how the game works and the balance issues of some of the differnt powers and other stuff. I've also, Rob will be pleased to know, written up a bit of setting background, set in a mythic version of 822 AD.

Most recently I've been reworking my cover and thought you might like a look at the new one. I've attached it, but had to compress it quite small to get the site to accept it so I hope it looks okay.

I also intend to make the book available in print through Lulu, using the sell-at-cost ideology - current estimates suggest that it will cost only $6 in the US, and for some unknown reason £1.80 in sterling - I'm sure the exchange rate's not that good/bad!

It's going to be somewhere in the region of 70-80 pages, and will be comic book size.

Cheerio for now,

Ben

just to let you know the outcome of my Lulu experiment.

the system was fairly easy to use. the cover proved a little trick to sort, but once i figured it out it wasn't too b ad. my suspicions abouit the exchange rate proved valid - its $5.98 or ukp £4.26. i'll just have to wait for my package to arrive to see what the quality is like.

Argh! All the stuff I missed while holidaying in Wales! This is superb news. I love the new cover. Did you do a silly-high-res one for Lulu or keep it around 72DPI? I understand that Lulu now sends from the UK, are you using that service or the US one?

Lovely to hear that you've given it a setting. All my old-woman-moaning seems to have come to good affect. When you get the book through the post, try not to cry (I nearly did) and take some photos!

Here's some picures of the finished product.

As you can see from pic 4 there was a problem wth the PDF source that led to a fairly major error with the cast stone. The PDF distiller I used has some weird auto-rotate feature that I had to finish it off. However finding the setting to fix it also let me correct the problems I was having with the cover (as mentioned in my on the topic).

When I sorted out a new version I was also able to correct the problem with the cover,. I'm still awaiting the latest one, but overall I'm very happy with Lulu - its a very high quality job.

Cheerio,

Ben

Ben, it looks superb! When I did a test print of Icar (see below), I felt all weepy to have it in my hands. Did you feel that way?

The black border looks quite hardcore. Do you have a list of things you want to tweak? Are you going to have a free download and a sale copy?

My Icar test copy:
