Always look back....

Postby kumakami » Mon May 09, 2011 12:50 pm

While rehashing somethings in your mind is a bad idea, (like the stuff going on in my personal life ATM) looking back at other things can be a blessing. I have buckled down, logged back into google Docs, and started to re-embrace Bard once again..with the goal of making an intro/quick play adventure.

so this is a call out to all monkeys, whether on the top of the banana pile or down in the poop pit. Grab one of your back burner projects, 24 hour game that beg for expation, or idea thats been in your head for years. We're making May

This is a great idea, I've coincidentally (in the last few days) finished working on a fairly extensive rewrite for my FUBAR entry from last years cyberpunk revival project.

I'll be releasing it as soon as I get to a decent internet connection (hopefully some time in the next few hours).

It's a general streamlining of the game with expanded play descriptions and examples pushing the page count out to 50 pages (from 30)...I've called it the FUBAR Director's Cut.

I've got plenty more games on the backburner though, and I might try to revisit/complete one of them by the end of the month.

Right! Great idea. A call to action indeed. I'm going to do some reviews for the blog.

I have to laugh. I checked the forum and saw this topic in the midst of rethinking the damage reduction component of my game system. It's funny. I've had the component in place for a long time and took a good look at it. Strange how you can fall out of love with things. It honestly felt like something was just off, but I couldn't put my finger on it. I had been so proud of this creation and now I just couldn't get behind it anymore. After investigation, I found out why. Turns out, despite how elegant it sounded... the math was atrocious and the statistics didn't justify the effort. Spent a good few days on and off trying to find something I could like. Cooked up a few neat ones, but ended up practically doing an integral on the old component to bring it back to what it was derived from. I took a step back and feel better for it.

So, I'm prompted to look at everything and try to remember what my motivations were. I get the feeling some of them are under the "because I wanna be different' category. Not exactly the best if you don't have any other reasons.

I have to say I like to see how people have taken this and aplied it. Bard is slow going, mostly do to time issues but I have (dare I say it) hope it will get done.

Ok, so the first review just went up.

http://www.thefreerpgblog.com/2011/05/i ... odern.html

I've half-read another game but not sure if there is enough there for me to review. Next Tuesday is still May, so I'll definitely get another one out (I publish on Tuesday) but will try and write another extra.
