Online RPGs?

Postby trodgers » Mon May 30, 2011 5:38 pm

I haven't played an RPG in a long time, but I started playing about 24 years ago. I'm an RPG creator, so I've kept myself busy with that on and off over the past years. I'm suddenly feeling the urge to return to RPG things.

So the first thing I'm looking for is an online RPG, a sort of turn-based game like D&D put out as an app on Facebook. Has anyone here, by chance, made such a game? Or can anyone point me in the direction of one? I'd be appreciative. Failing that, I will look into establishing a PBTRPG (Play by Tweet). I've tried it in the past, but I've had little luck.

At any rate, thanks for having me here.

Welcome T-Boy, glad you could join us. Perhaps you might like to join in on (or run) a play by post? They can be tricky to keep running and the adventures need to be quite simple but they are lots of fun. Check further down the forum for examples. Over the years, I've done loads of PBP and am tempted to run some more. It can be an easy back in.

How about setting up a group at home?

Thanks, Rob. I'm going to take a look at the PBP option.

I've worked up some rules for PBT. I'll probably end up sharing them here as the catchy PBTRPG. It's a challenge to structure things to keep them interesting and informative with only 140 characters. I'm pretty happy with what I've done so far.

Group at home, eh? I'm likely to be moving very soon (if, God willing, some university hires me). So perhaps when I settle down wherever I'm hired that will be a good option. Hasn't been practical where I am. I did run a brief but excellent MERP game in my first year of Master's work.

Post up the rules to PBTRPG (need a new name for that - anyone have any ideas) in the RPG forum. We'd like to see/give feedback! I fancy giving it a go.

For those wondering, T-Boy and I go waaaaay back - we are both moderators on the sadly quiet Yahoo! rpgwritersclub group.

I like the idea of calling it PBTRPG (play by TEXT rpg). That way, I avoid having to say that it's designed specifically for Twitter, and I don't have to shell out billions of dollars. I'm working on making the rules look nice and pretty right now.

RPGwritersclub has been quite for about five years. It's pretty sad, really.

Best,
