I'm assuming that its more likely Keeton had to use a backup and posts after a certain timepoint keep getting lost... but it happens quite frequently and without warning. If this is indeed the case it would be nice for a notice to be posted or a statement of some sort so the masses arent left wondering.
Oh, and the draft. Man, that's a hard one. My gut instinct tells me "no." Mostly because it would be political suicide for any official to do so. Bush, while he does not have to worry about re-election, does have to worry about the continued prosperity of the GOP... and a draft would destory a lot of the popularity the party enjoys right now.
The problem remains about the stop-gap measures being taken to prevent any further loss of personnel. But, even with a steadily declining number of personnel in Iraq and Afghanistan... I have a hard time imagining the draft being institued.
There's a Canadian immigration attorney that is touring certain U.S. cities and giving seminars on moving to Canada.
If it wouldn't mean divorce, I'd be gone by now. Not that I personally need another reason to move to Canada.
I'm late posting this, but of course I voted. Even with the thought that my husband's vote canceled mine out. Oh well.
Some semi good news is Bush only won Dallas County by 10,000 votes. And of the voters that actually voted on election day, 200,000 more voted for Kerry than Bush. So I guess Dallas County is more of a PURPLE shade these days.
Dallas County also elected a FEMALE, DEMOCRATIC sherriff.
The idea of leaving the country makes me angry. I believe the actual terminology for that is defection which I believe constitutes a trial on the basis of treason. Fleeing a problem only allows a problem to continue and grow. I am glad, however, to hear that Bush didn't win by as much in Dallas County. I'm not pleased about that because I wanted Kerry to win the election as much as I am pleased that just because it's Texas, Bush wasn't a guaranteed win. Down with the electoral college!
Meh. If people want to immigrate to Canada... more power to them. Day in and day out i deal with people that would sell a body part to be able to get a piece of the American dream. While it is disheartening and annoying at times to see the lies people come up with in an attempt to illegally immigrate to the U.S.- it is a powerful feeling to realize that these people know first hand through relatives and friends of theirs how powerful the American Dream is and just how likely it is to make a better life for oneself in the U.S- and will do whatever it takes to become an American. While not perfect- there are millions of people who want nothing more than to get into America and be part of the system.
So, if someone want to leave... go for it. If it will make you happy and it is what you want... then you should be supported for your decision. However, remeber that there are 10 hard working people to take your place- many of whom will not take for granted many of the simple luxuries we all have grown accoustomed to.
