I didn't think of the "12 times the work" aspect...

...and I have enough trouble trying to get my own games read, let alone reading through the work of others.

I could probably pull off a seasonal thing...best winter game, best spring, best summer, best autumn...giving them "Silver Bananas" and entry into the "Golden Banana".

Otherwise, it might be worthwhile splitting up the contest into sub-categories such as "Layout", "Artwork", "Innovation", "Best Overall".

Just throwing ideas around....seeing what sticks.

I'm more in the whole categories thing. However, that may depend on the amount of submissions that we get.

If there are only 4 games, then having 10 categories seems to make little sense. If we've got a pile of games then yes.

How about this, we do it for a calendar year. That means that any game created for 2012 will get submitted to the group by Dec 31st 2012 and then we judge during the month of Jan and reveal the short listed people for Feb. Or would you rather just jury it and forget having a group of other people pick the winners?

I mean that's kind of presumptuous for any group to do, but would we get enough people to vote on things?
I also do which isn't much, but it's enough for me.

The more I think about my beard rage, the more I think we're approaching this wrong. ENnies, like it or not, are the industry awards. If we set up our own, with our own rules and way of judging then that's OK but it turns us more into a niche of a niche. That isn't good because it doesn't cover the broad hobby, more likely it'll turn into a circlejerk where we all submit a game and someone wins. Like RPG blogging or podcasting, the philanthropists should be as much a part of the hobby as commercial business. People have been giving away free stuff for AGES!

So, my aim is to try and change the ENnies rather than breakaway.

...but how do we instil this change?

I guess those of us who blog might be able to expose the scam for what it is...

...it can't hurt.

Well, I'm talking to Tony Law at the moment. A new category looks like the best option. The ENnies are more community driven than you might think, so Tony is open to all comments, requests and ideas. If it's workable.

Oh, and I think we should still do the Golden Banana but only on top of getting into the Ennies too.

Got bored . . . so DRAFTED a quick game for BEARD RAGE.
It needs cleaning, testing and actually formating . . . might continue but if anyone else wants to
work with it . . have fun

Beard Rage
You are a bearded warrior, or wizard, or thief, or whatever . . .
main point is you have a glorious beard and it is you sole reason for
continuing your existance.

However "KEETON the Great" has fallen under the spell of People of the Wig;
and now has outlawed all facial hair. The Mustached Muarders were the first
to fall to the Razor Raiders. This anarchy must be stopped!

To Play:
- Some friends
- Some dice (d6's work) at least 2 per player.
- A deck of 52 Playing Cards
- Scrap paper
- Coins or tolkens
- These Rules

Rules:
1) Character Creation . . .
Give Your Character a Name.
Roll 2d6 . . . this is the length of your Facial Facade. Take that many coins
from the stock pile and place them in front of you.

2) Game Start
One Player is choosen to be the Leader of the Wig People (Remove all his/her tolkens).
This player than shuffles the deck of playing cards and rolls 2d6. The total on the dice
is the number of henchmen he/she has to assist him/her in defending the Wig cause.

The rest of the deck gets shuffled again and placed in the center of the table.
Starting from the WIG MASTER's left the other players take turns drawing and revealing cards.

Red Cards are Facial Folically challenged Creatures from the Underworld summoned to do the bidding
of the WIG MASTER. The WIG MASTER chooses whom these creatures attacks.

Black Cards are former Mustached Mauraders or Bearded Barbarians who have fallen to the razor and now serve the
WIG MAster. Again teh WIG Master can choose whom they attack.

ACEs are magical wayshirnes that can boost a Bearded barbarian's Abilities.
(ie increase the length of your bread or give you a bigger weapon.)

QUEENS are ladies with lovely loose locks who understand your rage. Reavel one and gain +1 tolken as thier
hair care techniques instantly add an inch to your already formable fuzzy face. (discard after reaveling.)

JACKS or KINGS with facial hair are allies and join which ever player reveals them.

COMBAT:
Roll 2d6 + your Beard length vs the numerical value of the card.
If you score higher you have defeated the foe. If they score higher lose 1 tolken; as
the fiend/trator has managed to clip some of your beard . . .

If you have an ally they will sacrifice themselves to save your sacred Scruffiness. Do not lose
a tolken but discard the ally you did have, and roll the combat again.

After the intial attack the player to the immediate right or left can enter the fray to save his
bearded bro. Roll and attack as normal. Suceed and you defeat the enemy . . . fail and the enemy clips
1 point off your beard.

Loose all your Beard(tolkens) and you have been defeated and fall into dispair unwilling to continue
the quest until your man-ness returns.

Defeated Foes.
Every foe you defeat gets placed in your private discard pile. (each player should have one.)
Each card in this pile represents 1 point of power. Any time an Ace is revealed during the journy phase you can
choose to spend these points to increase your own ability . . .

9 power pts = 1 beard tolken
5 power pts = BIGGER WEAPON (perminate +1 to all dice rolls)*
6 power pts = Second Weapon (gain an 1 extra attack)#

You can only make one purchase, so even if you have 20 pps you can only buy 1 increase.
*Max BIGGER WEAPON value is +3
#Extra attacks happen before anyone gain attack your foe. These are a speerate attack roll, and have
the same rewards/consquences as the first roll (ie fail both rolls and you lose 2 Beard Tolkens.)
Can only be purchased once.

Once the "party" has cleared the deck they face the WIG MASTER.
All the cards drawn by the WM at the game start are completely loyal.

The WM goes first revealing a number of "allies" equal to the force facing him.
Each player rolls combat normally. If this first round of foes are defeated the WM
reveals another wave of minions.

IF the Party is able to defeat all the minions they have captured the WM and freed KEETON
from his vile grasp. The world of Facial Hair equality is restored.

END GAME
Players can spend thier points to improve their characters, and if another session is going to be played
a NEW WIG MASTER should be choosen.
