Mostly. Work is busy as always, and I've been doing the eight project shuffle so I haven't had anything good to announce.

I'm in and out. It's hard to get a conversation moving right now. I've been working on non-free RPG stuff so I don't like to talk about it here. Not that I've really been getting a lot done.

I'm currently conducting some research into starting people on RPGs and one of my theories seems to be supported by the data. The large majority (70% so far) of people that I've interviewed so far either started playing under the tutelage of another player or using a simplified ruleset. To me, that means that we need a lot more basic rules and then move to advanced systems once the players are comfortable.

I'm having fun playing my two new games Protector (supers game) and Jump Temp (space opera). I'm kinda stuck on doing illustrations for them and getting them out the door. I just haven't been in the mood to draw. I did do a line drawing today, so I hope to get myself moving.

If anyone here wants to look at the games as they are, I can send them to you. They took some getting used to for the two groups I've been running but the players have settled into the system and seem to be enjoying the games. I think I needed to learn how to communicate the system properly. My language is getting more consistent and I'm understanding how to run the system better.

I've also been developing a new card game about inventions. I'm ready to order my first draft deck but I'm waiting for my next paycheck.

To be honest for me its a number of issues, I have a lot of non-game things to deal with right now. On top of it the lack of a gaming group has destroyed my want to work on RPGs, add to that the other hobbies I have....so yeah been hoping the site would perk up to draw me back in.

Last week I finally organized two friends into a gaming group and held one session.

The old Gamma World systems are obviously not very good, so in hindsight I think it was a mistake to go with it. When I started assembling the group, I had player #1 on board, and player #3 (who missed the first session, but has some D&D experience), and both of them were okay with Gamma World clunkiness. They have mostly played computer RPGs and just some pen&paper stuff.

Player #2 expressed interest in joining us, and I decided to roll with the earlier decision. She has no experience at all with RPGs, but was interested to try it.

The first session was okay - we got through char-gen and some basic introduction and got started on a short story.

I asked for some feedback.
Player #1 liked everything, except the lack of levelling up  my mistake - from all the various Gamma World editions I picked the one (2nd ed.) that doesn't have XP and levels...

Player #2's reactions were more interesting for me, as she has no previous experience with RPGs. Even more, no preconceptions at all. She had fun, but said that she thought it was all "too detailed". She admitted to having a short attention span (although she had no problems sitting through a four-hour long session with a 40 minute break). By "too detailed" she meant everything: we played out some dialogues, there was one fight (taking up maybe 20 minutes IRL?), some investigation and exploration. But she said that she'd like to continue.

A second session will be held next week, with player #3 added to the roster. We'll see how it goes.
