Do your friends refer to you as 'The Chosen One'? If not, they should. ;)

I met a guy at the local Wargames club who was very unsatisfied with the way the guys there played RPGs, i.e. they played AD&D as a miniatures skirmish game.

He invited me to find out what RPGs are really about, we played Call of Cthulhu with a friend of his on a really stormy winter night. I was pretty freaked out, loads of coincidences started happening, finally topped of with two of us realising we have the same birthday.

Sat in on a game where the DM was dating one of the girls in the party, naturally she was some ridiculous angel thing that was far too overpowered.

Well that wasn't weird, that was just annoying. When they broke up, yet she insisted to continue playing, is when it got weird. Then the DM started flirting with and dated another girl in the group for even more drama.

I was naturally sitting at the end of the table with a bag of popcorn on the edge of my seat.

In NERO, the LARP I play, you can play your character at any number of chapters, anywhere in the country. Our characters were from Avendale (connecticut), and were visitors to Therendry (Pennsylvania.).

We were playing at this campsite right next to a gigantic state park, up near the mountains. It was February. A little bit of snow was on the ground.

I was the only human in a party of evil dark elves. The weekend plot was that this evil being had told everybody, "If you don't bring me at least 9 of the 15 magical widgets which can be found this weekend, I will unleash years of war upon your kingdom."

So being generally shady and uncooperative, we endeavored to steal at least 7 of the items, thereby screwing the locals and angering their enemy. We managed to get seven, then decided to book it out of town.

In NERO, if you did something shady and are then trying to escape, you have to hide in the woods for an hour. If nobody sees you within an hour, you got away. So our team hid out in the woods as the sun set and it started to snow.

At about ten minutes from us being allowed to leave game, we heard a noise. The other 30-40 adventurers in town had formed a posse, and they were patrolling the woods looking for us. We had been spotted. We scattered and broke into a run. As necromancy was thrown at me, it dawned on me that this was not the law coming to take us to justice, this was another murderous group of players who intended on lynching and killing all of us.

So I ran and ran and ran. Eventually, I got away, though it was a really intense chase. When I caught my breath, I realized I hadn't been paying attention to where I'd been running. So now I was lost in the woods, alone, in the snow, past sunset, in a gigantic state park. Oh, and there were bears.

So I panicked and ran some more, basically just running and screaming for a while. I was really scared, worried that I'd be sleeping in the woods tonight with nothing but a light cotton cloak to warm me.

I was about to give up and make a camp when I emerged onto a large field with a farmhouse in the distance. Civilization!

I took off my costume and knocked on the front door. A woman answered the door in a blue dress and bonnet, holding a candle.

"What kind of crazy larp did I wander into?" I wondered.

Then it dawned on me - I had wandered into AMISH COUNTRY.

So to make a long story short, I got a horse and buggy ride back to the campsite from two very nice Amish boys named Stephen and Levi. On the ride back, they pretty much made fun of me the whole time.

That was probably the weirdest experience I've ever had.
