so I've been thinking about it for a while, Rob's campaign note of CA "DEAD...AND BACK". I'm jealous to be honest. We put allot of heart and soul into our free works, yet never see the true fruit of our labors....others enjoying our work. We may run a campaign of it our selves, but it not the same. To see what some one else would do with "your" game. To hear or read of their fun with it, find other the flaws they see, That is the reward most of us are denied.

I wanted to do a exchange, you pick a person on the forum to play their game, they then must pick another's, and so on.... But I have no gaming group to offer so in the end couldn't participate.


Do any of you feel like this...a wanting to see fellow philanthropist's play and talk of your game? Or is it just me?

Its hardly an uncommon feeling, if anything I'd say its one universal to all of us. I'm still kind of amazed that Rob played D&B for so long, and I rather want to run an ICAR game in return, though once again - I don't have a group of players around me.

I've considered for a while using something like "Obsidian Portal" to run games since I have more optional rules than set ones at the moment. Its been quite a while since I ran a game though, and trying to do so via a forum rather than face to face seems like its going to be difficult...

But hey, I'll make the offer. Tell me which of your games you want to run Kuma, and I'll see if I can get one of those online programs to work. I think the aforementioned portal is more of "free wikis for Role players, but its the most ubiquitous one I know of. Maybe we just need to give this round robin rpg testing idea some inertia and it will take off.

I only have one game in full existence CA...Feast of Goblins. And as soon as I can pass thins drug test (going tomorrow) I will be employed and doing like 50-60 hour weeks for crap pay (beats being broke though)..so will be unable to reciprocate

Well, I guess being able to eat is some condolence. But I will keep the goblins in mind and try to learn an RPG over internet program or two anyway.

I feel your pain, Kuma and CA. I think this is a common complaint. I started the blog because I felt that free RPGs didn't have a champion. You'd get an irregular thread on RPG.NET, theForge, theRPGSite, enWorld etc but there was no-one really supporting all these people who were writing games.

Most authors write games to play themselves. I certainly do. I am currently running The Wall with the Shared Pool system and it's going rather well (when we get back from Chrimbo break).

I don't expect anyone to play Icar. I know a lot of people have downloaded it and flicked through all the pretty pictures. Few have read it cover-to-cover. I think probably just me. Doc's played it and it will make up my next campaign. I know that another group played it in 2004 but they went quiet really early. It is disheartening but I tend to ignore that and get on creating anyway.

All that said, I think this is a great idea (naturally, which is why I ran D&B) and I hope we get some takeup. It is going to take time - I have this campaign to wind up and then the next one to run before my group will be free.

I guess I've been lucky with my free game FUBAR (it probably helps that I've been trying to promote it pretty actively at local conventions and across various forums). I've had a bit of feedback from other people downloading and playing the game.

Not as much as I'd like, and certainly not a lot of constructive feedback...people either say, they love it or they just don't get it, or don't like the formatting. But I'm happy that a few people other than me have actually played it.

I've got a regular group who are happy to try some experimental stuff. So I might be able to get them to try out some free games if you'd like.

This is something that I'm coming to realize. You have to go out and play your game at cons to get people talking about playing it. I still haven't done it myself, haven't built up the courage yet. I've never GMed at a Con before. It's a bit of a scary prospect for me.

I've been meaning to try out the games here (they're free! the authors are here!), but time + people to play with are a constant struggle... But soon, hopefully!
