Looking to Promote

Hey all

I think this is the right place to put this post. I am not looking to do a promotion. I am looking to do some online promoting of Dice Chucker and I was looking for some advice. Unfortunately I am limited in what I can do. Banner exchanges are a no, considering I am using a free site as a home page. So one of the ideas I was thinking of, is making posts in several gaming forums. I know of a few, gamingoutpost, rpghost, the forge. I was wondering if anyone knew of anymore or had some other channel options. For that matter would this online word of mouth even be a good option?

If I go this route I am trying to decide on what I should say in the post. I am thinking the for the "hook" of using the same opening I have on the webpage, and then add a little more detail about mechanics. Then of course ended it with my homepage and email.

What are some other methods you have used? And what kind of response did you get? I am looking for all opinions and angles, horrible experinces and best responses.

I agree with your hook, that's much better than writing 'Buy my game'.

Hahhahahahah shows how much I know I did not know rpg index even existed much less that Dice Chucker was listed there.

RPG Index is actually very cool. It's a hard working site that not many people know about. Pity really because it does a good job of tracking games and their progress. It's also self updating - the Icar listings are perfectly up to date with all the latest modules and the like.

After I read your post I jumped over there and checked it out. It is very cool I joined immediately. I think they need to do some promoting of their own so more people can find out about it!

Something I overlooked about promoting I think I am going to place a message on the website and ask people to vote for Dice Chucker. I am going to make sure and mention that more votes mean more people will notice the game, which will mean more enthusiasm, which in turn means I will write more and faster!

Which voting system were you looking to use? I've tried some of them and although I have recorded the votes going, you're unlikely to rate in the top 50/100. Effie's Top 50 RPG list on the RPGHost network is an excellent example. Most of the top 100 use php or perl scripts that automatically send a vote when their users access any page. This is quite easy in any forum-based rpg pages where you can fire off php code to automatically register a 5 * vote. Most small RPG will fall off the bottom using this system - regardless of how many kind hearted souls click the 'vote' button.

hmm I see. I was planning on using the rate it types I did not realizethey automatically registered a 5 upon hit. That would make it difficult becuase the number of hits would heavily outweight the fans...
hmmm well that just leaves shameless promotions. I really need to get some pics of in game action to add to the page.
Something else I was thinking of once v3 is up and going I may look into getting it reviewed on gaming report and rpgindex. This has its own pitfalls some could always blast it. I would just have to hope for a good honest review who looks at it for what it is. Then I can accept the review good or bad, but there is always that nagging sensation that what if they were having a bad night or something.
