Interesting idea for a game book

Postby Onix » Sat Jul 16, 2016 9:37 pm

I have this idea that I'd like to try, I have two games that use the same system. One is a super hero game and the other is a low tech space opera. I've had the notion to put them together in one book, but flip one of the games upside down so that instead of a cover and a back of the book, there would be two covers.

I'm not super sure if the books would print properly like that, but I'm willing to try it out. Two questions come up through. One is, is that a neat gimmick? Would a two game set like that be interesting? The second is that there's no way that I can think of to do this digitally and have it still make sense. Am I missing a way of combining the two books that would make both games functionally equal?

Any thoughts?

Obviously I'd prefer a regular book to a wiki, but with the proper linking and a good navigation page, a wiki can be functional as a rules database.

I really used the SPF wiki for an extension of the existing book and adding details that I didn't want to clutter up the book with.

An approach that may work is to have an overview page. It outlines each step in a rules interaction. How to carry out the rules is detailed in the discrete rule pages. So if I know how to roll for the encounter, I don't have to read that part, but if I don't know how to handle initiative in this setting, there's a page I can drill down to for a more in depth tutorial, I then move on to the next step in the chain.

You could call it a Process Page.
