 Great Question!!

And thanks for the words of encouragement.

Unfortunately, at the moment... A+ was build without an economy... no setting... so no monsters, no treasure, and no way to spend your 10 copper coins.

You are not the first person to ask about this... so I guess at the very least I need to come up with an item list and a few monsters to fight...

In the mean time if you need an item list that you can use as a guide for giving out treasure and allowing your adventurers to spend some money try going here:

Jason Morningstar's Dungeon_Squad is a pretty nifty introduction to a fantasy RPG... it is only 5 pages... one of those is the character sheet and the other is an item and price list. If you are using a copper standard... just change the word "gold" to the word "copper" on Jason's price list and you should have enough to go on... from there you could probably figure approximations for other prices that you need...

... or if you want to try a more complete item list there's this link:

This is a fan site for Castles and Crusades. When you are ready to spend some money on a game. I recommend it. But, it's all about the old-school approach to AD&D and may appeal more to old time gamers like me... I don't know...

About halfway down the page under the heading: "Rules and Setting Info" you will see a link that reads: "C&C Character Creation Cheat Sheet" this document has quite a long item/price list.

Hopefully these will help you out. But, I will get to work on a price list... and some monsters... the demand has been pretty high!!

I'd like to echo the sentiments of most about A+ Fantasy.

1) It's great! I love it! Thank you, thank you! I swear I had a smile from ear to ear as I read those 28 pages. Good job.

2) I too really long for more content. I would want nothing to get in the way of it's elegant and rules-lite nature, but I sure would love some monsters, treasure, etc.
I really hope this will happen. I love the 28 pages, but I'd love 33 pages even more! :)

Also I was trying to figure out a simple way to include a rapier as a weapon and a corresponding Weapon Technique for it ("Flurry of Steel" perhaps?). Do I rule that a rapier is exactly the same rules-wise as a short sword? I could but I feel there must be some way to distiguish it without unbalancing anything, because I sure as hell don't want that.
Any advise anyone? Any simple,(but one that makes it a seperate weapon) drop-in, fire-and-forget rule suggestion for this?

But anyway, great game. More please.

I'll think about the Rapier... in fact, I have had some requests for more weapons... items... monsters... more content all the way around. I may just have to break down and take another serious look at A+... I tend to be the kind of designer who switches gears a lot... but I've been away from A+ for long enough now that I really think I could tackle it with a fresh perspective and really give it some more worth while content without bogging it down.

If you have suggestions for the ways I might incorporate new weapons or other new content into A+ let me know.

I'm looking at again after some time. (The real reason being that I'm a slave to the time of year as per my moods and right now, espionage is so 'right' for the weather...anyway)

I don't know how, without changing the whole shabang, you could squeeze in that many new weapons. I guess the way to do it is just and only make the stats for rapier for instance the same as short sword. Pity. But we don't want to get rules-heavy. Yuk. So.
I'd love for a rapier to get some sort of initiative bonus, but considering the rules-lite nature and indeed the rules themselves this would terribly unbalance it in favor of the weapon. (I love that intiative is based on what armor a character is wearing. Lovely. Makes so much sense and is so simple and elegant.)

I suppose just add rapier and make a rapier-specific Weapon Technique. I mean, there's gotta be more fantasy gamer than just me that want a Gray Mouser-type character.

You would know (and be more comfortable and better judge of it) better than I, but how about?:

Flurry Of Steel (since it's still all I can come up with -lol-)

Weapon: Rapier
Skill: Swashbuckler
Frequency: Once an Hour
Success: Critical
Retry: Yes
Now here is where I come up short. An extra attack? Parry vs. multiple foes? a simple "+"? I don't know.

Also, another thing. The more I look at things like Swashbuckler; Dexterous(Acrobat); Dodge(Sense Danger); Parry(Deflection) and Melee(Warrior), the more I wonder if this is necessary...
Surely there's room somewhere, somehow for the outstanding finesse of Errol Flynn and whatnot, but I'll be darned if I know how to quantify it. :)

Ya know, man. I think maybe...you actually already thought of everything and it isn't needed. You may need to pat yourself on the back (which you should do already for this system). It really, really deseverves much more attention. This system is great, man, just great. Now all we need is da beasties....

I revisited A+ today for the first time in a long time... and... well, dern it's good. I mean it really is clean and easy and does everything that I want it to do. I need to throw more energy into it.

I posted Gothic Worlds a while back to make use of a Fantasy Art License. I am really serious about respecting copyrights and such (I think I repeated Sega's copyright like 5 times in my PSO book just to make sure I was covered.) And I don't want to release a new version of A+ without getting in touch with Rebecca, but last time I tried I couldn't reach her. I do not want to continue to use her art without her permission... also I am thinking very seriously of trying to self-publish at RPGnow.com and I won't sell Rebecca's work... it's not mine to sell... that means I need new art. The MegaMinis License will serve my purpose and do what I want.

I like the name Gothic Worlds and while I was trying to create that game I had some thoughts on a setting that I also like. A setting will help with things like Monsters and such and make the evolution of the game beyond its system possible.

My plan is to evolve A+ Fantasy into a full blown commercial PDF RPG. I am going to retain the name Gothic Worlds and change the name A+ to that... the new Gothic Worlds will use the MegaMinis art and take advantage of that license which allows me to sell my product without any copyright problems. But the new Gothic Worlds will use the A+ system 100%. It's a good system and a good game. This is my latest project. Be on the look out for it. As I plan to self-publish this, I won't be posting the work on 1km1kt.net, but I will give out some free copies for evaluation to 1km1kt.net forum members who contact me and let me know that they are interested.

Regards!

Good luck with that, Jeff. Consider me interested. What will become of the old Gothic Worlds? I have the A+ Fantasy in my pdf collection, but haven't given it a full read. I'll try to check it out when I get a chance.

I'm very interested. Good luck, indeed.
Pity about Rebecca's art. I really dig it and it flowed nicely with A+. But since you're changing from generic fantasy to dark, grim fantasy I suppose her work wouldn't really fit.
I'm not a big fan of the name Gothic Worlds, but whatever...doesn't change a thing, man.
Keep on truckin'. :)

The old 24 Hour Gothic Worlds will live forever in infamy as a 24 Hour submission, but I don't plan on developing it beyond that incarnation any further. I was working on it, but I was having real trouble with its development. Then when I was reviewing A+ and realizing how much I like it... I decided that it was high time I gave that game the attention it deserves. If you've never given A+ a serious look, please do so... the system is really pretty good and I don't know of any other like it. Hey MachFront... don't like the name? Heh, oh well ... like you said it doesn't really matter ... just a name. I do like it and others whom I have told about the game have been excited about the name (it tracks well with people.) So, A+ is getting a face lift. It will be awhile before I am ready to show anything off... but it's coming... it's my project for the near future.

Well then, consider A+ Fantasy next on my reading list. I wouldn't knock the original Gothic Worlds 24hour RPG, though... I think it's a very clever game, simple as it may be, and you should be proud of it, regardless of not being able to expand it. I for one will keep it in my collection. I'll have to read both RPGs now and see if there are any similarities.
