Play-By-Post Rokugan Game? Anyone up for it?

A Rokugan courtier game could be lots of fun... and give me an opportunity to bust open my L5R stuff.

Let's work under the assumption that we are going to to a D20 L5R game. I need to get a hard number of people that want to join.

So far I have:

1) Lamb
2) Napalm
3) General Lee

Anyone else who wants to join should pony up in the next week or so. Jason, see if you can track Andy down, I am sure he would enjoy this kind of game.

Also, those of you who have said your interested, tell me if you guys are ready to start going forward on this in the next week or so. I would expect characters by next weekend.

I talked to Mr. Page and he expressed some interest to play as well. I also mentioned that my brother wants to play and I am about 90% sure that he will. I will get back to you about it.

Anything we should know before we start making characters? Do we need to pick different clans? Any classes restricted? What level are we starting at? Backgrounds due by?

I would be interested but outside of creating an NPC for Jason's game at the Rave I've never played an RPG before so I would need a lot of hand holding - - - though I'm sure my Red-Headed-Stepchild wouldn't mind holding my hand. Would you Jeremy?

Chris you know I'm not red-headed, but I am interested in playing, I would've responded sooner but this computer logs on as General automatically and it was too much trouble to log out and log back in. But I am interested in playing and Jeremy said we would be making characters Thursday, so just know, that mine will be beautiful beyond imagination.

Well, it's time I play my first Play-by-Post! The Andyman has heard the call for players...and after a few days of procrastinating he has answered. As long Mr. PJ Gunning is running it and not that Jason... He wouldn't know how to run a Rokugan campaign...wait...I mean oops! Jason rocks!!
Seriously, I think this could be good! Any slots already filled? I was thinking of a Doji or Ikoma. Lemme know when we are making peeps! Oh and I'll take Balloons for $600 Alex!

Alright... I like hearing all the enthusiasm. The key is to make sure that people that sign up will STAY with the game. My biggest fear is that we will start this up and it will die because players cannot stay active. Expect to post at least twice a week- hopefully more.

So, seriously think about it and decide if this is something you want to do. I think it will be a great g ame and will be stronger with a goodly amount of members... but I would prefer to have a core number of solid and regular posters rather than lots of semi-regular posters.

Okay, all that said...

I am thinking that we will set in the Hantei winter court. The Hantei bloodline has been corrupted and shamed in recent memory- bowed, but not broken, the Hantei are working to reestablish themselves as a promient Imperial family... as worthy as the Seppun, Otomo, and the Miya. Shiro Hantei was been built over the last year outside of the ruins of Otosan Uchi. While still incomplete (much like the Hantei), Shiro Hantei has been opened up and is ready to host its first Winter Court.

You have been assigned by your Clan to attend the Hantei... to gather their strength and political acumen. The Hantei are a bit of a wildcard right now, and their overall goals are still very much in doubt. So, your clan has seen it fit to send you.

The timeline will be set it in the current timeline in diamond edition, but before the "Blood Rain" occured. Toturi III sits on the throne. Kaneka is a phoenix (as is Sezaru). The new Imperial City is established (Toshi Ranbo)

The Empire is generally at peace, though the Dragon, Lion, and Unicorn skirmish outside of the Imperial City over the ownership of the City of the Rich Frog. The Shadowlands are suprisingly quiet. Old rivalries between the Scorpion and Unicorn as well as between the Crane and Crab still simmer.

Character info:

Make a character with Rokugan D20 and any appropriate supplements. You will make your character up to 8th level with all the appropriate feats and skills.

Assume the Hantei have forbidden magical items outside of stuff you gain because of your class (such as the Samurai's katana).

Okay, as to Clans. Here is the time to request your top TWO picks. I will post tomorrow who represents what clan. (Minor clans are fine, but if you select a minor clan please make it your second choice).

Also, start working up a background to your character. If you send me a good character background I will bonus you +1 or +2 levels.

As to concerns about roleplaying... don't worry. As long as you can tell a story, you will be fine in a play by post. I will handle all cases that will involve rolling the dice- you will just tell me what you want to do and I will tell you if it is successful. Otherwise, your responsibility is to think like your character while posting and to help generate good conversation. Good?

I request Scorpion. Bayushi family to be precise. All beginning levels would be in courtier, in preperation for the mastermind prestige class.

My second choice... Dragon. Kitsuki family. Don't really have a concept yet, but I can work with it.

And I assume ability scores are point buy, considering you can't watch us roll? If so, how many?

Remember all, clans are not mutually excludeable. I am toying with the idea of having a couple of representaives from the same clan. So don't worry if your favorite clan is already selected.
