I'm having a lot of success with a wiki platform in terms of function. It ain't pretty and you can't customize the design like wordpress but it works very well in terms of categorizing information and letting me expand material, especially on setting, without using reams and reams of paper. Downside of course being it's not downloadable, but is it really that hard or uncommon to include a laptop in a gaming session these days? You want to know about a character rule? Often it's just a click away from your online character sheet.

I'm at http://thedarkrealm.wikispaces.com/ if you want to see how it's functioning.

Having said that I took a look at the 'Lady Blackbird' site and there's definitely some beautiful design work there, if only in the illustration - I think I'll be downloading whatever's there just based on the look of it. And at the risk of being impractical I do like a purdy website.

Since this thread has sort of meandered into constructive-criticism-of-member-webpages I'd really like some tips on my Dinosaur Cowboys wordpress blog: http://dinosaurcowboys.wordpress.com/. I'd love to get a better header but the theme I'm using doesn't allow for images, just plain text :( I tried to go for consistent colors and to keep all the relevant info easily accessible (for example I hate having to search for a download, I'd rather it be one of the first things I can see).

You're using drupal, which is a good start. I'd make sure that you have some kind of easy link to the game and a tag line under the title that tells everyone what the site is about and what the can get from it. The skin itself isn't bad at all and I like the green.

The thing I would recommend (but sadly can't practise for my own games) is to put regular content up there as much as possible. A breathing site is a more interesting site than a pretty one.

Thanks for the feedback Rob. I have the "Get the Rules!" link on the top left in bold and the "Download Rulebook" along the top right...do you think I should differentiate these further, or change the wording or anything? A tag line would be good, although I don't think this Wordpress theme supports it so it might have to be at the same font size as the main "Dinosaur Cowboys" header.

I totally agree on regular content. I was on vacation last week so I did some scheduled posts, but otherwise I've been trying to keep a steady set of posts going. I think once the game is finalized I won't have as much to post, but that's seems like a byproduct of not being in the development stage of a rules system.

btw funny story I found Icar way long ago and read through it and liked the art, so it's kind of funny that I'm now posting on a forum run by the author of it. Good old small RPG circles.
