Thanks for the response Errin. I'll get the typo fixed before submitting, as well as come up with a name. I agree it would be nice if things were better explained, but I had to find ways to word things that would fit in the space on the sheet. *chuckle*. As you say it's not difficult to work it out with what's there. I think perhaps I'll send in a better explanation of the rules with the application to be included on its download page.

Jeff: Just looked at Hex, nice job as usual! Classic dungeon delving, all on one sheet. Magick would have been nice, but tt wouldn't be difficult to add optional sheets with things such as magick later on without adding that much complication.

Okay, I updated my first effort, found ways to maximise the efficiency of the wording, minimize the dice use, and reformat it. Perhaps not quite as interesting to look at this time, but I think it's easier to read and use. Additionally, I believe there are no longer any confusing holes in the rules (although I could be wrong).

Nicely done Ross. This one is much easier to read and to follow. This looks very playable. I will have to give it a try.

Hello Errin. Not sure if this is how I'm supposed to contact you or if there's an e-mail I'm supposed to use. Saw your one-page rpg "The Creature of Murky County." I'm a sucker for these things, since Steve Jackson's "Melee" microquests.
Question: Can characters have stats above 6? Obviously at some point, if they aren't killed off then they'll be in a position to automatically defeat the monster, but then that's what happens at the end of a monster-hunter type of movie - the heroes blunder about, learning more about the menace, until they figure out some way to dispatch it. So, for this game do we do the same thing, keep on until the player-character is defeated or he gets lucky rolls (5-6 on all three, a one-ninth chance at best if the stats can't go beyond 6, or his stats increase enough that he needs a less and less lucky roll until the stats themselves are enough?

Taking

Postby tadk » Fri Sep 22, 2006 1:48 pm

Hey Jeff

I took your advice and bumped it up from 8 pitch to 9 pitch...still hard to read but a little better....Started working on the Space Opera verion, wont 24 hour it but will send it off soonish...I did submit Taking for the 1 pager / 23 hour via email and then sent it a second time in the larger font so it should go up sometime when ever you guys get it and post it..all good...not sure how much detail i can get for humans and 2 alien species on a single page, and the more horizonital layout is for division, top for rules, middle for options, bottom for setting specific stuff...so I could run the 'sheet' stuff across the top, then main rules to the left, options in the middle, then on the right the setting specific stuff...but I do like, personally, landscape character sheets ever since a friend did a homemade sheet for champions that we all adopted and just love a landscape layout.....working on one for Goodman Games Etherscope for my own usage as well....which is the why Taking is laid out that way....

There is no limit to the character's Physical, Mental, or Spiritual in The Creature Of Murky County RPG. In fact, the challenge of the game is to raise your stats up high enough to defeat/capture the Creature. You may not be able to begin with a stat higher than 6 due to being limited to the roll of a six-sided die to determine each stat at the start of the game, but from there on the sky is the limit for Physical, Mental, and Spiritual. The increases in stats throughout the game represent the gradual collection of clues as well as other miscellaneous factors (like what you send away for and receive at the Post Office depending on character class).
Glad you liked the game. I'll probably make more character sheet rpgs (well, I did make one more called Treason Season RPG), as they are easy and fun to do. I slightly recall Melee, but one of my favorites from Steve Jackson back then was Undead, a very clever game based on Bram Stoker's Dracula that only required one six-sided die but was ingenously complex nonetheless. I wish I still had that one.

Well, I already posted this as it's own topic, but I thought I'd also mention my game Regs, Dregs, & Zombies here since it is indeed a solo game. This one has Megaminis.com clipart, not unlike Jeff Moore's excellent Gothic Worlds RPG. Here's the link to RD&Z:
